3 Less-Known Things About Las Vegas

August 14, 2019 by Emily Watson1 Comment

Las Vegas, the city of dreams experienced lots of media coverage and screen time in the last couple of years. It is a very popular city among both the people of America but also among gambling communities of professionals. We’re all aware of the casinos, grand hotels and countless entertainment opportunities Vegas provides.

However, when it comes to this popular city, there’s still a large number of things that you probably don’t know about it. In this article, we will cover those unknown facts with the desire of showing you the lesser-known face of Vegas.

Not the Gambling Capital of the World
With all of the coverage, Vegas casinos and the city’s gambling opportunities received, it might be hard to believe this fact. Although Vegas is still believed by many to be the gambling capital of the world, the city doesn’t hold that title anymore. Vegas is still the gambling capital of the US but not of the world.

Over the years, new players entered the gambling ecosystem and managed to quickly expand, overcoming Nevada’s gambling reputation. Macau has always been one of the best gambling cities in the world due to its rich heritage and advantageous circumstances. And, as gambling expanded more in Asia, Macau quickly became the go-to place for casinos.

However, there’s another factor that influenced the growth of all gambling cities, regardless of their location. Online gambling has become more popular lately, surpassing in popularity both Vegas and Macau. People in their 20s and 30s are more likely to gamble online in places like Gametwist rather than to travel to a land-based casino. This is due to the convenience that comes with online gambling when compared to the traditional form.

Although no the gambling capital of the world anymore, Vegas remains a symbol for this industry and its people.

Atomic Bomb History
Although gambling has been part of Vegas for a while this activity only became popular in the 70s. Before that, tourists used to flock the desert to witness atomic bomb explosions. The desert is the ideal location for the US government to test bombs and, throughout all of the 50s, Vegas represented the gathering and observation point for tourists.

Interesting Museums
Although this is a lesser-known thing, Vegas has a lot more things than just casinos and hotels. Vegas has a large number of museums that, even if are not as popular among tourists they still tell a good story about the city’s past. Related to the fact mentioned above, Vegas has a National Atomic Testing Museum that’s meant to showcase the city’s heritage.

Besides that, Vegas also has a Mob Museum in the Downtown and an old Neon Museum. The Mob Museum is meant to showcase all of the mobsters that put their mark on Vegas, while the Neon Museum has the role to preserve the sings of all the popular casinos and venues that ceased to exist.

Conclusion
Although Las Vegas is one of the most popular places in the world due to its media coverage, there are still a large number of unknown things about it. The city is quite impressive and with a rich history that should be explored by more. We hope that the three less-known things mentioned above will provide you with a richer perspective when it comes to Vegas.
