So, Saipan…Surprise Me!

August 1, 2012 by Dave7 Comments

So, Saipan - we heard there wasn't much to see on your small island and our expectations were low after reading a number of negative reviews online. Sure there is poker in nearly every laundromat, an inordinate number of empty buildings, some falling into disrepair, an underlying problem with a gambling addiction, hence several 24-hour pawn shops - and nearly every market displaying permanent signs indicating "we accept food stamps" with … [Read more...]

Managaha Island Saipan

July 29, 2012 by Dave4 Comments

Managaha Island is merely minutes off shore - and the quickest way to get here is by walking on the beach in front of the Fiesta Hotel until a boatman flags you down. When we visited much of Saipan was covered by dark clouds - but minutes offshore, Managaha Island was bathed in bright blue sunshine surrounded by billowing white clouds. This small island has a number of beaches overlooking the corral - but most people head for the well trodden … [Read more...]

As a tourist destination in Asia, Macau pretty much has it all. Bustling nightlife with amazing casinos and gambling entertainment, beautiful beaches, an amazing heritage of Portuguese and Chinese culture and luxury resorts offering accommodation at low prices all vie for your attention on this small, densely populated island. Gambling is the number one industry in Macau and the multitude of casinos are a huge attraction for visitors as Macau … [Read more...]

Exploring Saipan – Mount Tapochau & the Grotto

July 26, 2012 by DaveLeave a Comment

We spent all day touring the northern part of the island. Initially we were reluctant to warm to Saipan but after spending some time exploring the variety of outdoor options the island offers we are now sold on its natural beauty. I love how small the island is and how easy it is to get around - we've seen many tourists with tour groups, but we've rented a car and are exploring on our own. The Grotto is well worth visiting. It is a semi … [Read more...]

Hanging out at Aqua Resort, Saipan

July 21, 2012 by Dave1 Comment

Today we breezed through Garapan (the main city on the island) and headed north. Looking for a nice place to stay we visited one resort. Its heyday had passed a long time ago. We then stumbled into Aqua Resort - a beautiful boutique resort located right on the beach overlooking the corral reef which extends well offshore. I walked out about half a mile on the shallow sandy reef until I met spiky corral in shallow waters and could go no further. … [Read more...]

History Comes Alive in Cancun

July 15, 2012 by Dawn RichardLeave a Comment

Situated off the Caribbean Sea in the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico, Cancun is a popular destination. It traces its roots back to the Mayan civilization and you can still find some of the sites at El Meco and El Rey. In fact, along the Riviera Maya and in the Yucatan interior, you will find many archaeological sites like Tulum and Coba. These are fascinating journeys into an almost forgotten life and time so get your cheap tickets to Cancun and go … [Read more...]

Touring Chennai

July 9, 2012 by Dave1 Comment

We didn't find much in the way of inspiration during our short stay in Chennai (other than the people were quite friendly) - but we enjoyed touring some of the city's unique historical sites including the San Thome Basilica. This is one of only three churches in the world that are supposedly built on top an apostle's tomb. This one houses the remains of Thomas the Apostle - the other two are the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in Spain and … [Read more...]

A Summer in Rome

July 3, 2012 by Hans BeltranLeave a Comment

The temperatures in Rome range from 22 C ( 73 F) to 30 C (87 F) during the summer months. During this hot period, it is usually dry, with only four rainy days on average in a month. The humidity is normally around 70% year-long, but ancient fountains still cool the public streets to make things more comfortable. Many of the holidays celebrated by the locals are Catholic in nature, but this is because the Vatican is located within the borders of … [Read more...]

The Mother of Canadian Shopping Plazas – The West Edmonton Mall

June 29, 2012 by Habeeb SalloumLeave a Comment

West Edmonton Mall, North America's largest covered shopping and entertainment centre and Alberta's number one tourist attraction draws some 31 million annual visitors. In this gigantic structure tourists and locals alike can take their families to an amusement park, skate in a large-sized skating rink, play a round of golf on a miniature golf course, and shop and eat in the more than 800 stores and restaurants - and do this all under one roof. … [Read more...]
