Top #epicOZ experiences

June 4, 2014 by Dave2 Comments

Australia is a country that begs to be explored - not quickly but slowly over a number of months. In the absence of such time, shorter trips are fine but focusing on a specific part of the country rather than trying to see to much. The distances are great and the experiences diverse. So to is the culture, the weather and the natural landscape. After a number of trips to the country I've spent some time coming up with some of my most epic … [Read more...]

A Day of Diversity Exploring Los Angeles

June 2, 2014 by DaveLeave a Comment

Here is an example of a single day microcosm of the diversity of Los Angeles. In the morning we visited the oldest McDonald's still in operation on the planet (out of some 20,000 McDonald's worldwide!), located in Downey. It was built in 1953. The original McDonald's was founded in San Bernardino California in 1948 and was a barbecue restaurant serving over 100 different barbecue recipes. This particular restaurant was the third ever and has … [Read more...]

Postcard: Gilli Islands Hopping – Peepholes in Paradise

May 18, 2014 by John Edwards1 Comment

John M. Edwards visits the Indonesian Gilli Islands, a tripartite chain of paradise islets, ending up on Gilli Trawangan, where locals Gilligans follow us around and spy on us like flypaper paparazzi. “I see India everywhere but I do not recognize any of it.” --Rabindranath Tagore, Indian poet Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale. . . . “Hello, John!” the curiously canny kid said, eyes wide with the practiced veneer of a … [Read more...]

How to Brave the Budapest Baths

May 4, 2014 by John Edwards1 Comment

Spa guy John M. Edwards feels frigging fantastic! If you're in Magyarorstag (Hungary), do as the Daubians do: Say goodbye to "bliss" and splash around au Naturale in the "eau de vie" of a real thermal spa, with a Red Bull in Hand... When you first arrive in Budapest for both (clandestine) “business and pleasure”-- feeling like a dumb foreign doppelganger soaking with sweat and stinking of brimstone--say no to the Four Seasons Hotel showers and … [Read more...]

The Bar with no Name – New York City

April 25, 2014 by John EdwardsLeave a Comment

Coming to loggerheads with an obvious British actor at an anonymous Irish bar in TriBeCa is like slumming it for a short story. . . . “What do you call this place anyway?” I asked over a pint of Harp at an attractive antique bar with no name in TriBeCa on West Broadway below Canal Street. “We haven’t decided on a name yet.” The bartender, who resembled Tom Jones, was drying glasses. His name was “Seamus” (as in Seamus Heaney, translator … [Read more...]

Charles Addams Family Values

April 11, 2014 by John EdwardsLeave a Comment

John M. Edwards, a paparazzo of the paranormal, stalks the The New Yorker’s most famous and fiendish poltergeist cartoonist back to his moody hometown: Westfield, New Jersey. “Give me a place to stand on, and I will have the earth.” --ARCHIMEDES In Westfield, New Jersey, I finally found the moody manse of cartoonist Charles Addams, probably The New Yorker’s most famous and fiendish cartoonist, and also the inspiration for the TV series … [Read more...]

Ramona Bruland, Adventure, Lifestyle & Adventure TV Host

April 5, 2014 by DaveLeave a Comment

While browsing Twitter I stumbled across Ramona's outdoor and adventure accomplishments. Discovering that she is originally from Adelaide and with a recent trip to South Australia including Adelaide, Kangaroo Island and Barossa Valley still fresh in the mind - this became a timely interview. Adrenaline and outdoor junkies take note - Ramona is just as comfortable carving tracks down the side of a mountain as she is jumping out of a plane or … [Read more...]

A Fine Bit of Madness

March 31, 2014 by Joei CarltonLeave a Comment

Near the end of the film, Zorba the Greek, Zorba dances by himself. His arms are spread out and his hands are open towards heaven. He shouts, “Everybody needs a little madness.” Well, that’s my story and I’m sticking to it. I had just spent five days camping at a Good Sam rally in Centreville, Michigan. Although the staff members were welcoming, the participants warm and friendly and there were plenty of activities and lots of entertainment, … [Read more...]

Skyrail Rainforest Cableway, Cairns Queensland

March 18, 2014 by DaveLeave a Comment

I have spent the last few days exploring the Daintree Rainforest (the world's oldest rainforest) from the ground; now it was time to see it from above the canopy level. Fortunately the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway is located just outside of Cairns. This is one of the do not miss Daintree Rainforest experiences. 7.5 Km of cable opened in 1995 and now brings passengers from near sea level up to 545 meters at its highest spot. Cable cars are … [Read more...]

The Royal Horseguards Hotel, London

March 16, 2014 by Carolan NathanLeave a Comment

One of London’s most elegant hotels is The Royal Horseguards situate on the Embankment overlooking the mighty River Thames flowing sedately along to the sea. This grand property has been the center of a seated establishment for many a decade and still offers warmth, glamour and service to its patrons. Many politicians and statesmen frequent the hotel today because of its closeness to the Houses of Parliament and Ministry of … [Read more...]
