Needing a break from wine work and with Los Angeles always a relaxing and therapeutic relatively short drive away (with no traffic), I scheduled a mid week getaway to Sonesta Redondo Beach. This beachside resort is within about a 20 minute drive from LAX. And for those wanting to enjoy Southern California's mild year-round coastal climate and its 'fit' lifestyle, the resort is conveniently located across from the Strand, a bike and pedestrian … [Read more...]
The Ultimate BMW Driving Experience
Ever wondered what it would be like to sit behind the wheel of a high performance vehicle and try to reach both your limits as a driver and the limits of the car? Idling in traffic on the 110 is certainly no place to test out your character and comfort levels as a driver - and certainly no place for an automobile to fully perform at its engineered capabilities. But we have found a place where you can - the BMW High Performance Center in Thermal, … [Read more...]
Flowers Everywhere! Southern California’s Springtime Bloom
Driving out in the morning from Mission Viejo to Lake Elsinore mid week, I thought for sure I would have the poppy fields all to myself. I could not have been more wrong. Pulling off the 15 on Lake Street and heading onto Walker Canyon Road I soon found myself in a 'zoo'. Seemingly all of Los Angeles and Orange County had made the trek out this Wednesday morning - traffic officers were directing cars, cars were backed up all the way into Walker … [Read more...]

This wonderful planet features a diversity of inspirational and beautiful places. Some travelers have been able to create careers out of exploring a range of often niche experiences or locations. For them, travel is a passion and certainly a huge part of their lifestyles. And in deciding which accounts to feature here, I started pondering - what would Ansel Adams or more recently, Galen Rowell think about the incredible amount of digital … [Read more...]
Non Stop, Vienna to LAX ‘Sound of Austria’ Austrian Air Launch Party
I recently attended a memorable party for the launch of Austrian Airline's new first ever route from Vienna to Los Angeles offering daily (except Sundays). This party was held at a Bel Air mansion tucked away in one of the highest canyons - located at the end of a cul de sac. Cars snaked down the road - we used uber and walked the last 1/3 of a mile. A red carpet entrance greeted us with Austrian Airline flight attendents wearing a color … [Read more...]
Los Angeles Travel Show
The first Los Angeles Travel Show I attended was many years ago at the convention center downtown - at one point there were two travel shows within a month or so of each other in Los Angeles/Long Beach - in recent years it was held at the Long Beach Convention Center - and this year it is back to where it belongs, downtown at the Los Angeles Convention Center. If you are in the Los Angeles area, enjoy travel put this consumer based travel show … [Read more...]
LAX is Happening!
I frequently use LAX for connecting to domestic flights and it is often my International hub. I even have LAX written on my license plate! Over the past few years I've been watching the airport change ... in a good way. The architectural 'waves' of Tom Bradley International Terminal are now as nearly iconic as the Theme Building (which housed the former Encounter Restaurant). LAX is growing - it is now the 5th busiest airport by volume in the … [Read more...]
Travel Massive October, Los Angeles
The latest Los Angeles Travel Massive was held poolside at the Sofitel in Beverly Hills. I've been to the mega shopping complex, the Beverly Center across the street a number of times (one of Los Angeles's premium and very profitable shopping centers) but never actually visited Sofitel. Travel Massive Los Angeles is co-chaired by MaryAnn of and Arnette of Round the World Girl. I've attended these meetups several times in town - they are … [Read more...]
Comedy, Kayaking, Museums and Farmer’s Markets in Los Angeles
Looking for some comic relief in the evening after fighting traffic earlier in the afternoon, I stopped in at the famed Comedy Store on Sunset Blvd - just down from the celeb rich Chateau Marmont for some comedy. Many famous acts have started here or performed on its stages including Jim Carrey, Whoopi Goldberg, Steve Martin and Chevy Chase among others. It was #blackout Tuesday and I was the only Caucasian in the audience. Oh and I was in the … [Read more...]
A Day of Diversity Exploring Los Angeles
Here is an example of a single day microcosm of the diversity of Los Angeles. In the morning we visited the oldest McDonald's still in operation on the planet (out of some 20,000 McDonald's worldwide!), located in Downey. It was built in 1953. The original McDonald's was founded in San Bernardino California in 1948 and was a barbecue restaurant serving over 100 different barbecue recipes. This particular restaurant was the third ever and has … [Read more...]
