St. John

June 28, 2011 by Paul KandarianLeave a Comment

You think hockey, you think cold. You think St. John in the Caribbean, you think hot. When you combine the two, what do you get? If you're very lucky, a Boston Bruins Stanley Cup championship. That improbable confluence happened for me when I was staying at Kismet on St. John, a gorgeous, five-bedroom villa of Moroccan design high atop Maria's Bluff, between Cruz Bay and Chocolate Hole. I'm a hockey nut in general, and about my Boston … [Read more...]

Wanderlust In Bohol Paradise

June 8, 2011 by Junfil OlarteLeave a Comment

"Life without travel is dull." ~The Author Our racing machine sounds like a roaring thunder on the highest gear dashing through lengthy and paved highway that connects Tagbilaran and its neighboring towns, all in the province of Bohol, Philippine Islands. The 8:00am sun has finally put itself clear after days of frequent rains in the island. I still sense the morning dew leftovers as I ride in next to Lloyd, going to one of the world's … [Read more...]

Old San Juan, Puerto Rico

April 22, 2011 by Dave13 Comments

It was nice to tour Old San Juan. The old part of this city is truly made for walking. At only 1x2 miles you can easily cover most of the old town in 1/2 a day. This is the location to the oldest "western" history in the New World. Buildings date back to the 1520's. The Cristobal Fort is a highlight with fantastic views overlooking the ocean especially when those big tropical billowing white clouds build up in the distance. Construction on this … [Read more...]

Culebra Island, Puerto Rico

April 18, 2011 by Dave2 Comments

Semana Santa can be a crazy time in Latin countries in April - especially on beach destinations or on airplanes where seating sometimes becomes quite limited. Yesterday we experienced the craziness on small Culebra Island, 18 miles off shore from mainland Puerto Rico and only 12 miles from St. Thomas and the US Virgin Islands. Flamenco Beach has been voted one of the top beaches in the Caribbean by several publications. Usually its pure white … [Read more...]

The Wizard of Christchurch

April 18, 2011 by John Edwards1 Comment

EVERYONE knows J. R. R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings trilogy was filmed entirely on location downunder by Kiwi director Peter Jackson. But did you know that a real sorcerer, a magi of magic realism straight out of the Oscar-winning series, only rather recently left New Zealand after the nasty Christchurch Earthquake of 2011. Born Ian Brackenbury Channell in London (4 December 1932), "The Wizard of Christchurch" is an inspired soap-box … [Read more...]

Hacienda Campo Rico – Puerto Rico

April 13, 2011 by Dave6 Comments

We visited Hacienda Campo Rico today minutes from central San Juan in Puerto Rico. This 2000 acre plus "ranch" is home to several companies offering a variety of activities. After hopping on ATV's we ripped through the ranch, screaming through tall grass fields until reaching hills. Rocky, limestone, steep and rough were key components of driving here. We thought we had received our adrenaline boost for the day. Wrong, the Argo Amphibious … [Read more...]

Addicted

August 4, 2010 by Nicole GallegoLeave a Comment

Hello, my name is Nicole, and I am an addict. Hello Nicole. The realization of my addiction came at the point where most addictions come, in a dark, dingy hotel room, alone, surrounded by pink pills. The only difference was that I did not have a needle up my arm and I was not in the center of downtown LA. I was in Puerto Rico, and was in my right, conscious state of mine (which I don't know if that makes it better or worse.) As I laid … [Read more...]
