May 10, 2025 by Junfil OlarteLeave a Comment

Nestled in the Bicol Region of the Philippines, Albay Province stands as a testament to nature's raw beauty and human resilience. This remarkable destination, approximately 450 kilometers southeast of Manila, offers visitors an extraordinary blend of natural wonders, cultural heritage, and culinary delights, all under the watchful gaze of the perfectly cone-shaped Mayon Volcano. The province's crown jewel, Mount Mayon, locally known as … [Read more...]

Bulacan: Heritage and History

May 1, 2025 by Junfil OlarteLeave a Comment

The morning sun casts long shadows across the cobblestone streets of Malolos as I begin my exploration of Bulacan, a province that serves as a living testimony to the Philippines' rich cultural heritage. Located just north of Manila, this region has long been overshadowed by its metropolitan neighbor, but as I would soon discover, Bulacan holds treasures that rival any in the archipelago. My journey begins at the Barasoain Church, its baroque … [Read more...]

Pangasinan: Western Luzon’s Hidden Gem

May 1, 2025 by Junfil OlarteLeave a Comment

As the morning sun rises over the Lingayen Gulf, casting a golden glow across stretches of gray-white sand, Pangasinan reveals itself as one of the Philippines' most underappreciated treasures. This coastal province in Western Luzon, whose name derives from the word "panag-asinan" meaning "where salt is made," offers visitors a compelling blend of natural wonders, historical significance, and cultural richness that deserves far more attention … [Read more...]

Bataan: Where History Meets Natural Beauty

April 10, 2025 by Junfil OlarteLeave a Comment

The morning sun cast long shadows across the Mt. Samat National Shrine as I stood at its base, gazing up at the towering Memorial Cross that has become synonymous with Bataan. This peninsular province, merely a few hours drive from Manila, holds within its borders both profound historical significance and remarkable natural beauty. My journey through this historic region would prove to be an enlightening exploration of the Philippines' past and … [Read more...]

As the provincial capital, this first-class city seamlessly blends its rich cultural heritage with modern development, creating an intriguing destination for travelers seeking an authentic Filipino experience away from the usual tourist trails. Baguio: The City of Mists

March 15, 2025 by Junfil OlarteLeave a Comment

As our bus wound its way up the serpentine roads of Kennon Road, the transformation was gradual, yet unmistakable. The humid lowland air of the Philippines gave way to an increasingly cool mountain breeze, while the tropical vegetation slowly morphed into stands of towering pine trees. We were ascending to Baguio City, the Summer Capital of the Philippines, perched 5,200 feet above sea level in the Cordillera mountain range of northern … [Read more...]

Pangyan Falls And Hot Spring

May 10, 2024 by Junfil OlarteLeave a Comment

The sight of roaring waters cascading over a rocky ledge into a plunge pool below or the quiet view of a lonely river flowing into the sea provide a soothing experience to those who believe the healing power of natural attractions. Among these irresistible attractions are waterfalls and hot springs. Finding the most beautiful one, however, may be a tough hike, but the feel of fresh water on your body and the breathtaking views of the falls … [Read more...]

A Walk In BGC

May 5, 2024 by Junfil OlarteLeave a Comment

To those who are mapping out a trip to the Philippines, Manila, being its capital city, would first come to mind. It is interesting to note that your visit will certainly surround the entire bailiwick of Metro Manila. This planned route might take you to the old-world Intramuros (which is in the city of Manila itself), home to Spanish-era landmarks like Fort Santiago, Manila Cathedral, San Agustin Church museum, Casa Manila museum with its … [Read more...]

The Paradise of Mati

If islands such as Boracay, Puerto Galera or Panglao are the only places you have been to so far in the Philippines, then my recent trip to the southeastern tip of Mindanao will inspire your next adventure: such place being Mati, a city in the province of Davao Oriental. A perfect vacation spot for beach lovers and outdoor enthusiasts, Mati can be reached around 3 to 4 hours via Davao City which serves as the entry point for all international … [Read more...]

The Tousuvan Falls

February 20, 2024 by Junfil Olarte1 Comment

I'm continually in search of opportunities to escape my daily somewhat monotonous routine. After the long absence of travel, I desperately needed somewhere to go, to displace the boredom that crept into my life. The feeling of being trapped at home has never sat well with me. And then, recently, I felt a 'kick of the can' when I took some time off from work and visited the Zamboanga - Lanao -Maguindanao - Sultan Kudarat routes, heading to the … [Read more...]
