Skiing in Romania This Season, Guest Post

November 17, 2012 by Dave1 Comment

Many people looking to ski on a budget are turning to Eastern European countries as their destination of choice. The neighbouring countries of Romania and Bulgaria in particular, are up and coming ski destinations. Since their entry into the EU, the infrastructure has improved and getting around has become a lot easier than in the past. Romania is being talked about as possibly the cheapest ski destination in Europe, but does that make it one of … [Read more...]

Village Life, Romania

November 5, 2012 by Dave7 Comments

Village Life was founded by Alexandra Vasiliu in 2011 and in part, focuses on connecting travelers in southern Romania with local families in a variety of small villages (much of Romania's population still lives in villages). Village Life has developed close relationships with residents in these particular villages and visitors will experience a slice of local life often not experienced during one's travels. Travelers are encouraged to … [Read more...]

Rural Romanian Village Homestay

September 7, 2012 by Dave16 Comments

Greetings from rural Romania! After a smooth 2 hour train ride I was met at the station depot by Mr. Saure, an agronomist engineer who volunteered to show me around town. He spoke very little English - so we headed right to the local museum where we were met by Dan who spoke very good English. This museum is not your typical village museum - rather it encompasses 40 acres of which a number is set aside for orchards, a demo vineyard and many … [Read more...]

Village Life, Romania

September 3, 2012 by DaveLeave a Comment

I am always researching travel sites and travel blogs and came across one several years ago, Watermelon Nomads, run by the husband wife team of Greg and Alexandra - a quote on their website by Alexandra inspired me to write them at that time. "I believe now that the richness of a travel experience is given by the ability of switching perspectives. We live in a world of cliches, where our image and feelings about a place usually come either … [Read more...]

No Rest & Relaxation on these travels!

August 21, 2012 by Dave1 Comment

The screaming followed me across the pond and then did not let up as I hopped across the old world from the United Kingdom to Romania. The first screamer shed no tears for the 10 hour flight - rather he hit every note in the key of F sharp and was a persistent little bugger. Lesser children would have killed it a few hours into the flight. After 10 hours this young chap was going strong wailing like a banshee. Unfortunately he was seated right … [Read more...]

Where to listen and dance to traditional Hungarian music

September 18, 2011 by NevaLeave a Comment

As it is well known Hungary it is an exception in linguistic terms, as it's the only country in the central Europe where a non Indo-European language is spoken. This part of the world is also very peculiar for its music traditions especially because the Hungarians are making a big effort to preserve their traditional music and dance. The great Hungarian composer and pianist Bela Bartok himself has studied folk music deeply. Together with … [Read more...]

What are the differences between Eurail Pass and InterRail Pass?

January 14, 2011 by Angela GuezenLeave a Comment

Travelers who are interested in exploring Europe by train will find that there are two main types of rail passes: Eurail Passes and InterRail Passes. The choice is made simply based on the passenger's country of residency; they will be eligible to buy one and not the other. Here is the general rule: *** The Eurail product line is available to residents of a non-European country. You are eligible if you have been a resident of a non-European … [Read more...]

Deadline and Last Call for 2011 Around the World Travel Adventure Competition

January 5, 2011 by DaveLeave a Comment

SANTA MONICA, CA (5 January 2011) - Outside magazine calls it, "One of the 50 Most Amazing Trips in the World," Peter Greenberg says that, "Unlike The Amazing Race, this challenge is more about your ability to connect with cultures," while NationalGeographic.com says the travel competition is, "like Survivor, The Amazing Race and the Eco-Challenge all rolled into one except with much more cultural interaction."
