Taras Bulba Restaurant, Moscow – January 2011

January 1, 2011 by DaveLeave a Comment

For an interesting dining experience try Korchma Taras Bulba, an authentic Ukrainian restaurant with multiple locations throughout Moscow. During one visit we found ourselves eating Ukranian food in Russia while ordering from a menu written entirely in Vietnamese. This restaurant seems to have menus in most of of the major languages of the world and the staff wanted to know what language we spoke as soon as we entered the restaurant so they could … [Read more...]

Expedition Titanic, 2011

December 9, 2010 by DaveLeave a Comment

(December 9, 2010) We have been working hard on the (rather complex) logistics for the expedition and can report that we have every expectation of heading out to visit the 'Ship of Dreams' in September 2011 As you may be aware the RV Keldysh, long time mothership to both of the twin Mir submersibles has been withdrawn from service after a long and illustrious career. We have been successful in securing the services of a brand new 85m (278ft) … [Read more...]

"Traveling to far away places is one best antidote because it heals life pressures; and there are literally countless destinations around the world which would do it. What is more important is that you bring that travel experiences to life--through diaries or photos, or simply by writing them in a story--tell the world about it, and such nostalgic memories will live on." ~The Author Nocturnal Road Adventure The journey starts as I … [Read more...]

Houdini Seance Evening at The Magic Castle, Los Angeles

September 22, 2010 by Marianne RuaneLeave a Comment

"Open sesame." I asked the secret passageway through the bookcase to reveal itself. "Open sesame!" I commanded, an octave lower. Nothing. I looked at my friends, the ten of us pressed close together in the bustling hallway, but they were all there for the first time as well. I stomped my foot. "OPEN--" The creaky bookcase swung open, and we hurriedly followed the guide inside. For my fortieth birthday I had decided to celebrate with the Houdini … [Read more...]

The Insanity-Producing, Migraine-Inducing Experiences of trying to Travel The World on a Thailand Passport with your American Husband

March 1, 2010 by DaveLeave a Comment

Oh the joys of trying to visit countries with a Thailand passport. While not the lowest of the low, trying to visit many countries around the world using a Thailand passport is about scraping the bottom of the barrel and is about as difficult as it gets. My wife is from Thailand and until she can get USA citizenship these are some of the fun times we have experienced trying to travel. We either try to apply for a tourist or transit visas … [Read more...]

Amazing Moscow. A visit to Moscow only leaves you wanting to spend more time here. Moscow delivers beautiful architecture including incredible onion domed cathedrals, world class museums, shopping and nightlife. We recently spent a few days in this amazing city. We recommend at least 4-5 full days to experience the highlights of Moscow. First things first; all visitors to Russia must acquire a visa before entering the country and the tourist … [Read more...]

The Crimean Peace

December 21, 2006 by Alex WelshLeave a Comment

Known only perhaps for its 19-th century war with the English, Crimea remains largely unknown to the traveller. Yet there can't be that many places on the planet that are so multi-dimensional it makes your head spin. Populated by the mysterious Scythians, settled by the Greeks, taken over by the Roman Empire, overrun by the Goths, the Huns, the Khazars, expanded into by the first tzar of Kievan Rus, lost to the Byzantines, swept through by the … [Read more...]
