10 Best Things to do in Jaisalmer: A Golden Oasis in the Thar Desert

March 14, 2020 by Abhinav GoelLeave a Comment

The westernmost tourist hot-spot in India, is the Golden City of Jaisalmer.  A majestic city with its citadel- the Golden Fort standing in the middle of the city, with each house crafted with yellow sandstone is nothing short of an oasis in the desert. The views of the mighty desert, the architecture of the marvelous Havelis, the vibrancy of the colorful markets and the culture of the historical city ensures an exalted experience for every … [Read more...]

Exploring the Island of Efate, Vanuatu

March 1, 2020 by Dave12 Comments

Circling the island of Efate by vehicle takes about 2 hours without stopping. I wanted a more in depth experience so I joined a small tour hosted by Atmosphere Tours, based in Port Vila. As we left Port Vila on the only road that circles the island (built by the Americans) our guide duly pointed out the last electrical pole some few clicks outside of the city. Beyond that, the villages do not have government provided electricity and if they have … [Read more...]

How to Choose Eyeglasses for a Big Trek

January 23, 2020 by Suzanne ELeave a Comment

Whether you are climbing Kilimanjaro, the Inca Trail leading to Machu Picchu or the Pays Dogon in Mali, having the right eyewear is essential. Firstly, being able to see the nature surrounding you is paramount to your experience. Even for someone with the slightest deficiency in their eyesight could be missing the details of trees, wildlife, and mountains which make the trek worth the long hard days of climbing. Your glasses also need to stay on … [Read more...]

A Dazzling Display of Verdicchio by Italy’s Garofoli Winery

January 21, 2020 by Steve MirskyLeave a Comment

Garofoli Winery, one of the oldest family-owned winemakers in Italy's Marche region, dates back to 1871 and still specializes in 100% single vineyard Verdicchio, a drier white varietal ranging from still to sparkling renowned for distinctive purity and verve. Way before the Garofolis' took over, the winery's origins are rooted in the Middle Ages catering to local pilgrims streaming into the nearby Basilica della Santa Casa. The Bascillica still … [Read more...]

Getting Around Aswan Without Getting Fleeced

January 12, 2020 by Abdul Rastagar3 Comments

My trip to Aswan, Egypt to see the ancient Temple of Isis at Philae was a good reminder to always look on the positive side, even when you feel like you are being taken advantage of by locals. The temple itself is magnificent and dramatically situated on an island in the middle of a lake. Because the vast majority of visitors to Aswan go as part of an organized and guided tour, there is scant information available for the independent, … [Read more...]

Cosmopolitan and Beautiful – George Town in the Cayman Islands

December 3, 2019 by Janet SerraLeave a Comment

The minute I stepped off the cruise ship, I knew I was somewhere special! I couldn't wait to explore the winding, colorful and cosmopolitan streets of George Town in the Grand Cayman Islands.  George Town is the capital of the Cayman Islands which are located in the British West Indies.  These islands have a population of over 55,000 making it the second-largest city of all the British Overseas Territories.  It definitely has a British vibe as … [Read more...]

Art, Beauty, History, and Cuisine on the English Riviera

November 9, 2019 by Samantha PriestleyLeave a Comment

Along with my partner, I recently took a short trip down to the English Riviera where I found beauty, history, and the most incredible food! We were lucky with the weather, the sun shone the whole time we were there and the air was warm and balmy, but I imagine this place is almost as scenic when the weather isn’t as accommodating. This part of Devon is best known for Torquay, home of Faulty Towers, but we wanted something a little more off the … [Read more...]

Best Beaches in Halkidiki, Greece

November 1, 2019 by CorinaLeave a Comment

Halkidiki is the “3-finger” peninsula located in the northern part of Greece. Left in the shadow of Greece's famous destinations (Santorini, Corfu), Halkidiki is a real surprise for its visitors. It is known for its golden sand beaches and crystal-clear waters and for its proximity to Greece’s second largest city after Athens, Thessaloniki. It boasts the largeset monastic complex in the country, Mount Athos. Images that come to mind when … [Read more...]

Why You Should Visit Death Valley in Summer

October 17, 2019 by Abdul Rastagar1 Comment

If the mere thought of visiting the hottest place on earth in summer freaks you out, think again. There are some great reasons to visit Death Valley in July or August. For one thing, there is the dearth of crowds. Unlike in winter, there are virtually no people anywhere. The few visitors you do encounter are most likely intrepid Europeans who have come to indulge in the desert at its most extreme. Also, unlike winter, days are significantly … [Read more...]

Tortola, British Virgin Islands – October 2019

October 1, 2019 by DaveLeave a Comment

About an hour's ferry ride from Charlotte Amalie is Tortola, an island in the British Virgin Islands. If you make this crossing, bring your passport - you will need it to enter the country (which is a fairly smooth quick process). You disembark in Road Town - a colorful community (largest on the island) originally perched on the edges of the steep hillsides which drop down into the water. However, much of the town is now situated on what was the … [Read more...]
