Hanging out at Aqua Resort, Saipan

July 21, 2012 by Dave1 Comment

Today we breezed through Garapan (the main city on the island) and headed north. Looking for a nice place to stay we visited one resort. Its heyday had passed a long time ago. We then stumbled into Aqua Resort - a beautiful boutique resort located right on the beach overlooking the corral reef which extends well offshore. I walked out about half a mile on the shallow sandy reef until I met spiky corral in shallow waters and could go no further. … [Read more...]

Volunteering at YCC Ghana

July 11, 2012 by Dave2 Comments

When you volunteer at YCC Ghana (Youth Creating Change) its of course about the children but in addition its about the family, the family of volunteers that you live with and get to know very well. You are all working towards common goals and the bonds that you will form during your time here are strong. YCC Ghana is located next to the small town of Sogakope about an hours drive from Accra and only about 35 minutes from where the Volta River … [Read more...]

Family Holidays in Alcudia

June 22, 2012 by TomLeave a Comment

Colonized in the past by Phoenicians, ancient Greeks and Romans, historic Alcudia on Mallorca's rugged north coast, is anything but a one dimensional diet of sun, sea and sand. That said, the main beach at Puerto Alcudia is quite rightly lauded for its serene beauty and is the primary reason for its enduring popularity with young families. Alcudia is essentially made up of three distinct areas; Alcudia old town is some two kilometres inland while … [Read more...]

World War II History Tour on Peleliu Island, Palau

May 24, 2012 by Dave2 Comments

Peleliu Island in the country of Palau is a part of the beautiful "rock islands" - hundreds of small limestone islands all covered with vegetation. This southern most part of Palau offers spectacular beauty in the form of pure white sand beaches, peculiar looking umbrella-like shaped islands, intense green vegetation covering the islands and its turquoise waters. There are a number of reefs in the area and snorkeling provides excellent visibility … [Read more...]

Why French Polynesia Should Be on Your Bucket List

May 4, 2012 by Chloe CippoloneLeave a Comment

Establishing a bucket list is the ultimate way to kick-start your life goals. As Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman demonstrated in their movie The Bucket List, some are a little more extravagant with their lists than others. Some wish to own a Corvette, others prefer to see the sunrise, and there are those who want to travel the world. If those last two items are part of your bucket list, then a trip to French Polynesia will kill two birds … [Read more...]

San Diego’s Best Beaches: An Insider’s Perspective

May 3, 2012 by Lisa PluthLeave a Comment

San Diego has acres and acres of coastline. With breathtaking views and free public beaches choosing the "best beaches" is very subjective. In most cases accessing San Diego's coastline also requires a car rental unless you are staying very close to the beach. San Diego's International airport is located minutes from downtown; consider an International Air Charter. Here are five on my favorite beaches and each is dramatically different in … [Read more...]

The Foods of Jamaica

April 25, 2012 by Allison TibaldiLeave a Comment

I grew up in a New York City apartment building with many Jamaican neighbors. The fragrant spices and vibrant flavors of the Jamaican kitchen have been part of my culinary lexicon since childhood. The scent of simmering curried goat regularly wafted in the hallway as the tunes of Bob Marley and Peter Tosh blared from the stereo. When I eventually ventured to the island as an adult, I felt a gustatory homecoming of sorts. The fusion of flavors … [Read more...]

Paradise in Palau – Kayangel

April 16, 2012 by Dave7 Comments

The word "paradise" is truly defined by Palau's northern most state of Kayangel, which is composed of merely four small atoll islands. Total population: under 100. Total "wow" factor: 100+ percent. It is places like this that you only read about in travel magazines or see on TV - and when you find yourself in one of these places (such as Kayangel), you have to pinch yourself to make sure its not a dream. It's easy to get 'high' here - perhaps … [Read more...]
