Everything is impossible, until it happens

February 4, 2017 by Derek Cullen4 Comments

Backpacker at the airport

In late 2013, I decided to ride a bicycle through Africa in an attempt to turn my life around. My parents had passed away back home in Ireland but, to tell the truth, it was not their memory that had dislodged my equilibrium, it was me indulging in self-destruction. It all seemed so impossible on the airplane as I sat reading a beginner’s manual about how to repair punctures, but after a year spent riding through deserts, mountains, remote … [Read more...]

Maintaining a List of 4,000+ In English Domain Name Travel Blog Directory

June 16, 2016 by Dave23 Comments

When travel blogging started to slowly take off in 2005/2006 I created a separate category for it in my already existing links directory. I added a links directory to my site in the late 1990's although it was much smaller and all html coded by hand back then. It gives me a way to keep track and reference when I need to, on a large scale, the many different facets of the travel industry. It is impressive how many travel blogs there are and … [Read more...]

Kion Kashefi’s Solo Travel Tips

March 19, 2015 by DaveLeave a Comment

Kion Kashefi has taken his bicycle through every part of Central America imaginable, and every bike tour he has undertaken following a disastrous first experience with two friends has been done on a solo basis. An Exceptional Day Regardless of the Rain

February 4, 2014 by DaveLeave a Comment

I'm not one to enjoy rain - really, ever. Today was an exception. Joe, our driver for the day from Wayoutback Safaris pulled up nice and early at 630am, making the rounds of hotels and hostels in downtown Darwin. We were off for a day of swimming - heavy rain was not going to stop us. Our destination was Litchfield National Park located in the bush about a 90 minutes drive south of Darwin. Our first stop was the impressive Florence Falls for … [Read more...]

Monkey in Hotel Room, Varanasi, India

March 1, 2009 by Dave5 Comments

Reluctantly we left Varanasi despite the naked people sitting in the dirty streets, the unbelievable amount of cow poop clogging the narrow streets, the CONSTANT power outages, the smelly garbage everywhere, the people urinating and defecating in open view along some of the ghats, terrible pollution, large bellied obviously malnourished children, incredible poverty, CONSTANT badgering and aggressive pan handling by the touts and "guides" (worst … [Read more...]
