A long weekend exploring Geneva

October 15, 2017 by SallyLeave a Comment

My idea of a good way to spend a bank holiday weekend is none other than jet setting off to a foreign land. My best friend was traveling in Italy and Switzerland, so I decided to meet her in Geneva for 3 days. Let me start off by saying that Geneva is not cheap. Ranked as the most expensive city in Europe, anywhere you go for food or drinks, is generally overpriced. So if you’re a backpacker on a budget, Geneva (and the majority of … [Read more...]

Warren, Ohio: A Weekend Getaway Back Thru Time!

October 5, 2017 by Jennifer MartinekLeave a Comment

In the State of Ohio, between Cleveland and Youngstown, sits the City of Warren.  Don't bother looking for it - you won't find it on any map. Unless, of course, your checking for the weather on the 6 o'clock news! After spending an afternoon in Warren, it's easy to see that there is so much more to this city than meets the eye. From the Packard museum to the Trumbull Art gallery, restaurants and bars, the Ampitheatre and Mosquito Lake State … [Read more...]

Traveling Solo, Worth it or Not?

September 25, 2017 by DaveLeave a Comment

Over the years, most of my trips have tended to be solo ones. There are both positive and negative factors to traveling this way. The most obvious one is the freedom of traveling solo. You only have yourself to answer to - you make your own schedules and you aren't at the whim of others. As an independent traveler, you can make decisions on the fly. Disadvantages to traveling solo include expenses - you don't have anyone to split the cost of … [Read more...]

My Thoughts on Cruising

September 20, 2017 by DaveLeave a Comment

I've been on a number of cruises over the years from a wine-centric river cruise in Bordeaux France, to an adventure cruise in Antarctica to a more relaxing tropical cruise in the Caribbean. However one cruise that has eluded me to date is a cruise around the world. I remember as a young child visiting with my grandparents at one of our local ports - just before they were set to embark around the world on a several month trip of a lifetime, … [Read more...]

Cruising Scotland with Windstar: A Booze Cruise Like No Other

September 10, 2017 by Allison Tibaldi2 Comments

As the Star Pride pulls away from port just outside of Edinburgh, passengers on Windstar Cruise's eight-day Gaelic Explorers itinerary toast bon voyage with the traditional glass of celebratory bubbly. With a range of top shelf liquor and bartenders with individual spins on classic cocktails, the cruise offers the option to indulge in alcoholic beverages while at sea. But cruising the coast of Scotland presents whisky lovers with a potable feast … [Read more...]

The 7 Wonders of Provence

September 5, 2017 by Emilie ThyebautLeave a Comment

If you’re looking for a sensational experience, Provence in southern France will not disappoint. With its seemingly never-ending lavender fields, its sun-drenched landscapes, a rich diversity of wildlife and mouth-watering delicacies from the region’s olive groves and vineyards, it is a real feast for the senses. It is also rich in heritage, with Roman remains, castles, churches and synagogues to be explored. Whether your priority is … [Read more...]

Visit Baalbeck, Lebanon – September 2017

September 1, 2017 by DaveLeave a Comment

Baalbeck or as it was originally known 'Heliopolis' is a major historical site containing various temples and other buildings created by the Phoenicians and the Romans, among others. Located about 2 hours north of Beirut one can access Baalbeck by public transportation (which we did by using a mini-bus from the Cola Gas station, not far from the Hamza Mosque). The bus will make a significant climb out of Beirut over the mountains - ultimately … [Read more...]
