Hanging out in the ‘Desh
We leave for our trip to the Deep South with 38 other Bengalis. We are the only western tourists on this trip - we will fly back because of the great distance and terrible delays that plague the river ways this time of year (usually fog related). Interestingly the airline we fly back on is called United....Airways that is. We are seeking out sightings of the rare Royal Bengal Tiger, one of the last few places in the world that you can see this … [Read more...]
Fun at Los Angeles Events
Rode in to town on the 5 on the inspirational wings of Don MaClean's American Pie blasting away on KRTH 101.1 FM. Needed some inspiration in the form of music as I certainly wasn't getting it from staring into the haze and smog that often hits the Los Angeles area this time of year. I was in town for only about a day and it was packed with events. I always like how whenever I spend any sort of time in Los Angeles events just seem to materialize. … [Read more...]
Peter Mondavi Sr: Longtime Napa Winemaker, Industry leader
We recently had the honor and rare privilege to sit down with Peter Mondavi Sr., long time proprietor of Napa's oldest winery, Charles Krug. Mr. Mondavi is 98 years young. We talked about history of course because when you've been in Napa as long as Peter Mondavi Sr. you have plenty to discuss. But we also covered the types of wines being produced today and how they differ from the wines he started out producing in the 1940's, not to mention his … [Read more...]

The peak holiday season is over and you avoid big tourist crowds. Of course, a city like Paris doesn't really have downtime with fewer visitors, but the temperatures … [Read more...]
Napa Valley Mexican-American Vintners Association Tasting
The first ever tasting of the Napa Valley Mexican-American Vintners Association was held Saturday July 30, 2011 at Maldonado Vineyards in the far northern reaches of the Napa Valley. This was the best tasting we've attended so far this year in Napa. Very personalized, great wine - dignitaries came up from Los Angeles, a historic tasting. The association is fairly new (2010). It was formed after a number of vintners poured their wines in Mexico … [Read more...]
Europe Trip Highlights
The following are some highlights from our latest trip to Europe: Partying late late in Belgrade Serbia - awesome party town, night clubs on old boats in the river. This was going to be museum-less trip, but we made exception for Nikola Tesla museum in Belgrade - we visited the museum and were duly impressed with the exhibits in action and hearing about his life on the guided tour Budapest - Buda Thai restaurant, one of best Thai … [Read more...]
Wines that Complement Games
Major International gambling hubs include Macau (tiny island off China's mainland coast), Las Vegas, Monte Carlo and Singapore. Alcohol and casinos often go hand in hand - free drinks are usually offered by scantily clad servers. Most of the time they offer cocktails or stiff drinks or even beer but why not make your beverage of choice wine - the perfect accompaniment for playing the slot machines, dealing cards or playing video … [Read more...]
