Venice Beach is located just south of Santa Monica right
on the beach. This is a town of eclectic street side artists and
backpackers and was featured in Baywatch, the long running TV program. A
long walkway (Ocean Front Walk) runs right next to the beach and the
frontage roads - this walkway is frequented by tourists, joggers, and
many street side artists. You may see people with multi colored hair,
wearing masks, wearing strange costumes, talking to themselves, running
around in circles, or any number of other eclectic activities. In part
you come to Venice beach to watch the people.
In addition many specialty shops line this
walkway. A good starting place for seeing Venice Beach is near the Cadillac Hotel
- where Dudley Street hits the Ocean Front Walk. You can get to Venice
Beach by taking the 10 west from downtown and then driving south on the
1, the intersection being in the city of Santa Monica.
