A Wine Focused Visit to France

November 1, 2021 by Dave3 Comments

One of the most memorable vineyards in all of my travels is the tiny vineyard at the Bordeaux Airport - because whenever I see this vineyard I know I'm within a short drive to some of the most coveted terroir on the planet. And in all my travels around the globe - its not like I've seen very many vineyards planted at airports! The few people on my flight scattered as soon as we landed; I took full advantage of a totally empty airport to … [Read more...]

Visit Charleston, South Carolina – November 2021

November 1, 2021 by DaveLeave a Comment

This historic city was founded in 1670 as Charles Town - moved to its present day location in 1680 and changed its name to its current spelling in 1783. The airport is located about a 30 minute drive away from the historic French Quarter - visitors can either take taxis, ride sharing services or use one of the often slow buses (takes up to an hour). The historic … [Read more...]

Lightweight, Data Backup Travel Items

October 11, 2021 by DaveLeave a Comment

The appropriately named Western Digital My Passport hard drive is ideally suited to those on the go. One axiom we have learned from several decades of travel is that one can never have enough backups. Both hard drive size and weight have improved dramatically over the years. Our first My Passport Drive was much larger and significantly heavier. This latest drive (comes in sizes of 1TB, 2TB, 4TB and 5TB) is so small it will easily fit in one's … [Read more...]

Mark Twain Country, Missouri – October 2021

October 1, 2021 by DaveLeave a Comment

One of the world's greatest travelers, Mark Twain once said, (we won't reference the common Twain quote here) "...nothing so liberalizes a man and expands the kindly instincts that nature put in him as travel and contact with many kinds of people." During our International travels we sometimes come across Mark Twain monuments indicating his prior visit. The man got around. Mark Twain was born in what is still very rural Missouri. When you … [Read more...]

An Unexpected Night in Cabo San Lucas

October 1, 2021 by Dave2 Comments

The rooftop edges over dramatically - at its most precipitous drop, one would fall maybe 10 feet if they weren't careful. There is no railing guarding the edge of the roof leading to the steps to the lower level. But one afternoon a gentleman showed up with his portable welder and began welding together a metal railing before ultimately installing it. We began chatting - his initial questions were about politics. Always a hook conversation … [Read more...]
