Back from LA

June 11, 2010 by DaveLeave a Comment

capital-records-hollywoodJust got back from the City of Angels. Had the Natural History museum exhibits all to myself – 1st Friday of every month open late, live bands setup shop and food – and some of the southlands pre-eminent professors and researchers give lectures, setup right among the exhibits. Def a highlight. Amazing gold and gem collection. World’s largest known Ammonites. I felt like Ben Stiller in the Night of the Museum…well without the displays coming to life.

Water this year in the mountains has done wonders. Too bad missed the earlier explosions of colors in April & May, quite a site…but took some time to relax on Mt. Baldy – chairlift runs on the weekends, tons of hiking on top – and was quite refreshing to sit in the middle of the stream in all the snow-melt!

Esotouric

Also took 4 hour crime & history tour of West Adams (near downtown) with Esotouric. Fascinating stuff. This is a niche husband-wife owned company based in Los Angeles offering a variety of eclectic tours. Also hit 9 unique museums. Japanese-American museum a highlight (excellent restaurant btw) and also the Neon Art Museum. Next time will hit the Perfume Museum – yes, the only one of its kind in the USA.

Visited the public observatory at City Hall. On the 26th floor just below the Tom Bradley room numerous paintings dominate. They are of every LA mayor – with one glaring exception a certain painting is missing; that of a woman mayor. LA is tied with NYC in that regards.

My LA article is by far the longest article on the site and it probably only contains about 1/2 the content I want to be there – sooo much more to visit and review 🙂
