Hanging out in Budapest

July 13, 2011 by Dave3 Comments

Been hanging out in Eastern Europe the past few days. We are having a great time in Budapest so far! Enjoyed 3 hours today in the public baths in various pools ranging in temp from 20C to 40C including the 70C sauna -whew! Did you know some of the residential parts of town are littered with caves under the homes? We spent 5 hours spelunking through a 19km long cave. At times you could barely squeeze through a number of parts of the cave it was so … [Read more...]

June 11, 2011 by Dave22 Comments

Every year we make the annual trek out to Brentwood (no, not that Brentwood), but the Brentwood on the edge of the San Francisco Bay Area (California) that is home to lot of agri-tourism, including the U-Pick Cherry Orchards. From around Memorial Day weekend through the mid to the end of June is cherry season. These orchards are extremely popular with folks who come over from the Oakland and San Jose areas to pick. Cherry picking makes a great … [Read more...]

Luvin’ Shanghai

June 1, 2011 by Dave17 Comments

The Shanghai Financial Center contains the world's highest observatory. The building is nearly 500 meters tall with an elevator that rockets you up to about 440 meters in just over 60 seconds. There are two observatories - one at the 94th floor and one at the 100th floor. Both afford spectacular views of skyscrapers in all directions. Shanghai is a major International financial player and this building is one of the city's proudest … [Read more...]

Hanging out in China

May 26, 2011 by Dave13 Comments

Nice to be back in China and on Asia time - was in Beijing last year, this time around I've already re-visited Hong Kong and now in Shenzhen on way to Shanghai in a few days. Hong Kong is crazy with all its traffic and hundreds of high rise apartment buildings but so is Shenzhen! Last night was just mesmerized by all the lights driving by what seemed like never ending row after row of high rises. Cities you've hardly heard of in China have … [Read more...]

Oakley Headquarters, Orange County CA

May 19, 2011 by Dave6 Comments

We recently had a chance to re-visit the Oakley Headquarters in Orange County California - it had been 12 years since I was here and this time I had a formalized tour by one of their employees. For something different and probably out of the way, make a trip up the "bunker" or Oakley Headquarters located at 1 Icon Parkway in Foothill Ranch (Orange County, South East of Irvine). Visitor parking is available across from the entrance - lots of … [Read more...]

More fun in Los Angeles

May 16, 2011 by Dave5 Comments

There's always, always something to do in Los Angeles and this past weekend was no different. Stumbled into a place to stay at the last minute - turned out to be where George Clooney used to live and Quentin Tarantino wrote Pulp Fiction. Nice! Location was quintessential West Hollywood - minutes from the "strip". Hit the LACOT Travel Tweetup at the Xbar at the Hyatt in Century City. Good to reconnect with other LA area based travelers … [Read more...]

The next LACOT meet-up is Thursday May 12th from 6-8pm. This will be held at the Xbar at the Hyatt Hotel in Century City. We first got word of these monthly meet-ups at party in LA earlier in the year. They are a great chance to network with other travel writers, pr folks and journalists. If you are in the Los Angeles area, do stop by for an evening of socializing. See you there! … [Read more...]

Sense Yountville, 2011

May 8, 2011 by Dave1 Comment

Another successful Sense Yountville was held on a beautifully sunny warm Saturday May 7th under the "big white tent" at V Marketplace 1870 in downtown Yountville. This, only the third annual "Sense Yountville" has already become the appellation's premiere wine & food event. Thirty wineries were represented offering their pre-release wines and large format bottles, and culinary pairings were provided by local restaurants. Highlights included … [Read more...]

“The Privileged Pooch” Book Review

May 3, 2011 by DaveLeave a Comment

We spend a fair amount of time in the Los Angeles area and when "The Privileged Pooch" came across our desk we jumped at the opportunity to review it. Southern California with its great year round weather is one of the friendliest pet destinations in the country. This book is the essential guide to luxury travel in Southern California with your pet. Long time San Diego resident and travel journalist Maggie Espinosa reviewed 69 hotels from San … [Read more...]
