April 3, 2011 by DaveLeave a Comment

Kathy wrote us the other day about her unique travel product, Lock-A-Bye (she runs the company with her 2 sisters). This is a slash resistant tote bag with a locking zipper as well as a cable lined strap sewn into the handle. Their patented locking mechanism secures both the contents inside the bag as well as the bag itself. This bag is also waterproof. … [Read more...]

Boxtick America goes Gold Mining

March 25, 2011 by Dave1 Comment

Recently I was approached by BoxTick America for an interview. The guys, Ryan, Johnnie and Tom have been traveling across the USA for 7 months and have another 5 months in the country. They are filming weekly episodes based on requests coming mostly from the UK for activities they think American's are interested in. These requests come in and BoxTick America then tries to participate in these activities. One recent request from a viewer was gold … [Read more...]

Sense Yountville Wine Tasting

March 23, 2011 by Dave3 Comments

After running into Scott Lewis a few days ago, the owner of V Wine Cellars in Yountville (where we have tasted with a number of producers over the years), we were reminded of a special event coming up on May 7th. This, only the third annual "Sense Yountville" has already become the appellation's premiere wine & food event. Thirty wineries are represented offering their pre-release wines and large format bottles, and culinary pairings are … [Read more...]

LA Gangland Tours

March 21, 2011 by Dave4 Comments

I'll be writing a much more detailed story about this at some point because this is a great story. I had the opportunity to join one of the LA Gangland Tours. This unique organization is not glorifying gang violence and activities rather they are humanizing it, raising awareness, and raising money to work with kids before they get sucked into this "culture" as well as other preventative measures against the gangs. Its touching to see rival … [Read more...]

More LA Times Travel Show

March 19, 2011 by Dave1 Comment

As always Los Angeles is a study in contrasts and that is the beauty of this incredible city. I'm just as comfortable at an exclusive party at a secret location on one of the blvd's in Hollywood or Beverly Hills as I am slurping up Menudo or enjoying Horchatas at a small taco stand in the heart of South Central or Watts. I'm always in town every year for the annual LA Times Travel Show. Like many things that are "big" in LA, this the largest … [Read more...]

Sailors Take Note

March 12, 2011 by DaveLeave a Comment

My brother John is again off on his round the world galavants. This time he's stationed in Puerto Vallarta Mexico helping get a 46 foot Beneteau sailboat ready to ship off sometime this month for the South Pacific. They are going to head south west from PV with their first stop at the amazing Marquesas (in the middle of nowhere). This small group of islands are among the most remote on the planet - with their nearest continental land fall being … [Read more...]

Dinner & Dancing: Brazil

March 10, 2011 by DaveLeave a Comment

This is a guest post from Rachel who runs Central Coast Foodie in San Luis Obispo, California USA. In regards to her mention of Capirinhas - we've been making those this week and using Germana, a traditional Brazilian Cachaca. Perhaps this is too strong a Cachaca, it certainly doesn't taste like the awesome ones I had down in Sao Paulo - if anyone has other recommendations let us know? This drink sure requires a lot of sugar! *** Happy Mardi … [Read more...]
