Robert is Here, Homestead FL – April 2003

Robert is Here in Homestead Florida is a rare and tropical fruit stand that has been in business for over 60 years. It was founded by Robert at age 6. We have been here several times – during our most recent visit Robert was still behind the cash register helping customers. We noted that our own purchases were hand written on a paper bag in pencil and then added up. No calculator or cash register here.

We are tropical fruit fanatics and had the good fortune to first visit this fruit stand many years ago and in another century during the midst of tropical fruit season. Not only a tropical fruit destination but also a culinary destination – Cuban sandwiches and a variety of fruit shakes are sold on site. A small zoo is located behind the fruit stand along with tables where visitors can enjoy recently purchased fresh fruits or foods.

Robert is here is located on the southwest corner of SW 344th Street and SW 192nd Ave near Homestead, Florida. Parking is pull in on the gravel strip surrounding several sides of the fruit stand.

Besides the ‘normal’ types of fruits and vegetables one might find in other supermarkets – they sell many rare and unique tropical fruits not often seen for sale actually grown in the United States including sweet juicy mangos during the Mango Madness season of the mid summer months, black sapote, canistel, and the extremely rare Monstera deliciosa (Swiss Cheese fruit).

You can visit them in person or view their website and purchase select products online. For more information please visit: www.robertishere.com or view our tropical fruit photography here.
