Philippines: Celebrating Pistay Dayat

May 21, 2012 by JimLeave a Comment

The Pista’y Dayat Festival is a celebration of thanksgiving in the Philippines. Also known as the Sea Festival, it is celebrated every Spring in the city of Lingayen in Pangasinan province. It is a celebration of the harvest and the bounty of the sea. Originally a small beach festival, Pista’y Dayat has become Lingayen’s largest celebration, attracting visitors from around the world. The event lasts for two weeks, and is marked by beautiful offerings on pristine Philippine beaches.

A once in a life time experience, those wishing to attend the Pista’y Dayat Festival can look forward to delicious food, native music and an elegant parade of boats. Through the years, the festival has also included an environmental awareness component, allowing performers to bring attention to the need to preserve the natural beauty of the Philippines.

The Pista’y Dayat Festival is a combination of nine featured traditional events; Galicayo Festival of Manaoag, Pandan Festival of Mapandan, Longganisa Festival of Alaminos, Sugpo Festival of Binmaley, Mango and Bamboo Festival of San Carlos City, Puto Festival of Calasiao, Binongey Festival of Anda,Sawali Festival of Labrador, and Pista’y Dayat itself. With all of this entertainment and activity, visitors should be sure to avoid a heavy credit card foreign transaction fee. For foreign travel choose a card that minimizes such expenses and maximizes points, either for travel or other rewards. There are some cards on the market that even reimburse foreign ATM fees. Do some research and you will find a card that fits your travel needs.

When planning to attend the Pista’y Dayat Festival, the first thing on the list is to buy plane tickets to the Philippines. With ticket prices at record highs, buying airplane tickets can be quite an investment. Though taking using a credit card to purchase such tickets might seem unnecessary, purchasers can rack up benefits that can help with travel in the future.

Once you’ve arrived in the Philippines, take the time to enjoy the sites, sounds and smells of this beautiful country. Enjoy the unique blend of Spanish and Asian influence in its traditions and foods. As you make your way to the Pista’y Dayat Festival, make a few stops along the way. The best way to enjoy this country is as the locals do – at a leisurely pace.
