Mutiny to Tahiti and French Polynesia

December 12, 2007 by David Stanley1 Comment

Since the age of explorers Wallis, Bougainville, and Cook, legendary Tahiti has tickled imaginations worldwide. More recently, Tahiti became the most famous Polynesian island of all when Clark Gable (1935), Marlon Brando (1962), and Mel Gibson (1984) played the role of Fletcher Christian in three blockbuster Mutiny on the Bounty films. Even the horrendous French nuclear testing program from 1966-1996 did little to dampen this image. For the … [Read more...]

The Golden Age of Air Travel Returns!

December 1, 2007 by Avant Garde AsiaLeave a Comment

Of all the airlines in this very first class battle, Singapore Airlines reigns supreme with the all new, double-decker Airbus A380 featuring a double bed that sleeps you and a companion in your own private suite. The 12 suites, created by yacht designer Jean-Jacques Coste, include fully closable doors for your absolute privacy, though no “mile-high” activities are theoretically permitted. How they will deal with any uncontrollable human passions … [Read more...]

Shh…Quiet. I’m in Norway

November 20, 2007 by ElizabethLeave a Comment

July 7 - Subject: Greetings from quiet Norway! Shh... the first words we heard on the train from the airport to the city center were "please respect the quiet zone." And its been incredibly quiet ever since! A well known Norwegian painter once wrote that the beauty of the mountains moves him into silence. If that's the case then perhaps people will stop talking altogether once we drive into the mountains. I always like to be keenly aware … [Read more...]

The Fire Temples of Darius

November 1, 2007 by Solomon Rastagar1 Comment

Just down the street from where the Ayatollah Khomeini's simple house stands in a leafy northern suburb of Tehran, someone had scrawled the following on a wall: 'America: there is not a damn thing you can do!' It was spray painted in English. Elsewhere, I spotted large murals depicting skulls on the American flag with the words "Down with the USA!" across it. Also in English. None of this came as a shock to me; in fact I expected to see such … [Read more...]

Diving St. Croix

st-croix-beach

St. Croix is one of those hidden gems, not just for divers looking for great diving in lesser known locales, but for anyone wanting to get away from the crowds and more visited places that have become way too 'touristy'. Here divers will find healthy, pristine reefs, a few wrecks, great macro diving, plus the famous 'Wall'. Because it's off the beaten path, Saint Croix is one of the more affordable islands in the Caribbean. You'll not only … [Read more...]

Travel Immunization and Vaccination Advice for Safe Travel

October 9, 2007 by Anna DeGaborikLeave a Comment

If you are planning to travel abroad, you may need certain travel immunization. Which vaccinations will be required will depend on your travel destination, the length of your stay, and whether or not you have already been inoculated against particular diseases. Consult a physician or travel medicine clinic at least four to six weeks before your departure in order to allow the recommended time for vaccinations to be effective. Trip to Cameron Highlands

September 30, 2007 by Teh Chin LiangLeave a Comment

We had an 'early' year end team building function this year as Nikki our supervisor was going to leave Agilent in the beginning of August. Due to budgetary constraints we only had one weekend to spend so we chose Cameron Highlands as our destination. Nikki assigned Yee Kee and Sherry to organize that trip and they were doing a pretty good job of getting everything prepared before we boarded the bus heading for Malaysia's premier highlands … [Read more...]

Kota Kinabalu Trip Malaysia

August 2, 2007 by Teh Chin LiangLeave a Comment

I remember this vividly; it all started on a lovely afternoon when I leisurely sat in front of my computer and browsed through my recent emails and happened upon an eye catching message which suddenly took my full attention. It was an email from Air Asia to announce that 100,000 free tickets would be given away starting today. I spread the news immediately and it soon reached Choo Pooi my colleague who was an avid outdoor adventurer. She had … [Read more...]

From African Lion Safari to….

July 30, 2007 by Habeeb SalloumLeave a Comment

My Saskatchewan friend was trying to find ways to give his family an enjoyable holiday. I did not hesitate in suggesting: If you have two days to spare, I have a great suggestion. For the first day take your children to the African Lion Safari and the second day to the Blackwood Creek Pioneer Village and, in between, visit a few children's entertainment centres. It will be a family vacation they will never forget! First book in at a … [Read more...]
