Practical Ways To Travel More

January 29, 2025 by Joe RobbinsLeave a Comment

Traveling is one of the most popular hobbies, but many of us don’t get the chance to explore as much as we’d like. Work, a lack of funds and busy schedules can all get in the way. If you’d love to travel more, there are practical ways to see more of the world. In this guide, we’ll share some tips to help you indulge your interests and get away more frequently.

Look for opportunities to work abroad
Working abroad is one of the best ways to immerse yourself in a different culture, get to know new people and get a feel for what places are like outside of the tourist season. Whether you have a stable job or you’re doing something casual to pay the bills, it’s worth looking for opportunities to work overseas if you have a desire to spread your wings. You could ask about secondments or transfers if you want to stay with the same company or take an extended period of leave. If you have a temporary role, you could look for jobs before you travel and then start work once you’ve reached your destination. Alternatively, you can look once you arrive if you have the funds to cover living costs before you start earning. Popular jobs for travelers include hospitality roles, teaching, working for tour agencies, and agricultural jobs.

Put money into travel-based investments
If your ultimate goal is to travel as much as possible, have you thought about putting money into travel-based investments? Examples include a campervan or RV, a yacht and a holiday home. These options sound luxurious, but they can be adapted to suit different budgets. If you contact a yacht broker or an RV dealership, for example, you may find that there’s a selection of new and used models that cater to different budgets. A vacation home may sound expensive, but it might be much cheaper than you thought, especially if you’re used to a prime real estate market at home. You may be able to afford a sprawling waterfront villa, but if you can’t or you don’t want a huge property, you can look at everything from city-center studios and log cabins in the woods to bijou beach condos and rural ranches. Set filters to help you find options that suit your budget and needs.

Become a digital nomad
There are now more than 16 million digital nomads in the US alone. Since the pandemic, numbers have soared, with more and more people choosing to work remotely. Being a digital nomad gives you the freedom and flexibility to travel and work simultaneously. If you regularly experience pangs of wanderlust, but you want or need to work, remote jobs provide a solution. If this is a path that interests you, research roles and locations and make sure you have everything you need to work efficiently and effectively. If you need a reliable Internet connection or you plan to meet clients face-to-face, for example, you may want to avoid rural destinations.

Many of us want to travel more, but we don’t have the funds, time or leave to fulfil our desires. If your resolution for 2025 is to see more of the world, there are practical solutions. Examples include looking for work overseas, putting money into investments that enable you to travel frequently, and becoming a digital nomad.
