Pucon – Nature’s Playground

January 23, 2019 by Abdul Rastagar2 Comments

Chile sure has a lot of laid back and beautiful rural cities. And of all of these, Pucon has to be my favorite so far. The town lies on the shores of sprawling and beautiful Lago Villarrica, at an elevation of 227 meters, and surrounded in all directions by dramatic peaks covered in lush, green forests. Above all towers the glacier of the great volcano. Like the eye of Sauron, but perhaps less sinister, it keeps constant vigil over the valley … [Read more...]

ATLANTA — When the Atlanta Dogwood Festival opens for its 83rd year this spring, the city's residents and visitors will once again have the opportunity to enjoy three days of fine art and live entertainment while delighting in the delicate blooms of the dogwood tree. i-SITE New Zealand, more than just a regular tourist information office

January 21, 2019 by Teh Chin Liang2 Comments

A tourist information office is conventionally known as a resource where visitors can learn about the local region. Generally, these are nondescript locales that seldom merit a mention. However, during my vacation in New Zealand, the local tourist information office took on a whole new meaning for me. Owned and managed by Tourism New Zealand, i-SITE Visitor Information Centers not only offer the best information to help tourists navigate, they … [Read more...]

Glimpses of Inle Lake, A must visit when in Myanmar

January 20, 2019 by Dave6 Comments

My formula for epic trips is something like this: travel with friends, seek out a diversity of unique and fun experiences, enjoy a bit of adventure, always imbibe in a bit of alcohol, find a balance between the natural and urban worlds, find good value for the money and meet other travelers. When Bohemian Vagabond suggested we visited Myanmar, I admit I wasn't super excited - having only visited once before near the Thai border and never … [Read more...]

From Los Angeles to Bogota – a Day Trip

January 19, 2019 by Abdul Rastagar2 Comments

Yup, you read the headline right. I made a day trip to Bogota, Colombia from Los Angeles, USA. I'm probably not the first one to do it, but I bet not many people have done it before. So how'd it happen? Mostly through my opportunism: I managed to squeeze in a stop in Bogota while on my way to Santiago, Chile. It wasn't really on my original plans but I had a choice of two flights - one with a 4-hour layover in Lima, Peru and one with a 16-hour … [Read more...]

Chevy’s 2019 Equinox Gets Me to Portland Maine’s Growing Artisan Food & Beverage Scene

January 16, 2019 by Steve MirskyLeave a Comment

The concept of taking a road trip sounds carefree and largely based on serendipity. But after rearranging your schedule and marking time on your calendar, the realization sets in that you need a planned itinerary and well equipped vehicle to get you to the most scenic routes and can't-miss sights. It helps to have comfort and navigational assistance like you get in Chevy's 2019 Equinox. I recently tried it out on a coastal road trip to … [Read more...]

The Pull of Haystack Rock: Why I Keep Coming Back

January 14, 2019 by Courtney MyersLeave a Comment

I'm from a sleepy town in the Triad region of North Carolina. All my life, my parents took us kids to the closest beach on the east coast there was: good, old-fashioned Myrtle. Even back in the mid-1990s, it was a treasure trove of commercialism, with high-rise condos juxtaposed against centuries-old motels still somewhat holding on, amid the tearing down of the old Pavillion and the installation of a brand-new boardwalk. My toes never touched … [Read more...]

Calling All Lobster Lovers: Nova Scotia Celebrates Lobster Season With Annual South Shore Lobster Crawl

January 12, 2019 by DaveLeave a Comment

NOVA SCOTIA – Although widely known as summertime delicacy, lobster fishing season in Nova Scotia takes place in winter when lobster fishers take advantage of the cold Atlantic Ocean waters. This February 1-18, the Atlantic Canadian province pays homage to the tasty crustacean with the 2019 South Shore Lobster Crawl, a savory three-week celebration of lobster-themed experiences and tastings. In February, visitors can “crawl” along the Atlantic … [Read more...]

Backpacking Across the Island of Malta, Gozo and Comino

January 12, 2019 by Ed Lasnick1 Comment

Valletta pedestrian zone

Are you an experienced backpacker? Are you looking for a place to visit in Europe? Or are you a newbie backpacker who want to take it easy and slow on your first adventure? If you answer yes to one or more of the questions, Malta is the best bet. Many local and foreign travelers associate Malta with four awesome phrases or words — small, warm summer temperature, picturesque, and safe. Travelers who’ve been backpacking for a long time actually … [Read more...]
