After Hours at the Colosseum

November 12, 2017 by Samantha Connors2 Comments

"This is insanity—I'm a WWE wrestler. I go back to America tomorrow," barked the rough, beefy man in front of us. "Mi scuso, sir. The Colosseum is closed," the guard responded with little sympathy. The wrestler lumbered away, huffing and muttering to himself. We were next in line. My mom stepped up to the security guard hoping to convince him to admit us into the Colosseum, even though we had arrived two minutes past closing time. His … [Read more...]

Enoversity: The Best Wine Tasting Class in Chicago

November 9, 2017 by Jaime Scilingo MazurLeave a Comment

Chicago is Bon Appetit's 2017 Restaurant City of the Year.  While the magazine gives a list of multiple restaurants worth visiting, it makes no mention of cocktails or drinks.  Perhaps it is because I live here and am spoiled by the great food, but I am always on the hunt for a well-priced wine or cocktail bar.  For people like Dave who is trying to visit every winery in the world famous Napa Valley, finding a decent wine tasting is not a … [Read more...]

Three Must See Sights in Northern Cyprus

November 6, 2017 by Dave12 Comments

Last summer when I mentioned to people I was planning a trip to Cyprus (Northern Cyprus as well), I often received blank stares or the question "where is Cyprus". A little geography is in order; the island is in the Mediterranean Sea - in the far eastern reaches south of Turkey and just west of Lebanon. It is the third largest island in the Mediterranean after Italy's Sicily and Sardinia. I flew from Beirut, Lebanon - there are certainly … [Read more...]

Adventure Travel in Quebec

November 5, 2017 by Abdul RastagarLeave a Comment

“Blessed are the curious, for they shall have adventure.” I admit I only know a little about Quebec, that francophone region located right in the heart of North America. I am aware that it is Canada’s second largest (and second-most populous) province. And that 90% of its population lives within just a couple of hours of the border with the United States. But what about the other 10%? Where and how do they live? What’s there to do beyond … [Read more...]

An Austrian Journey: Salzburg, the Alps and Hallstatt

November 2, 2017 by Preethi ChandrasekharLeave a Comment

When I think of the Alps, Switzerland most often comes to mind. This summer however, I trekked over the Austrian Alps and realized what a hidden gem this country is! Austria has it all, from amazing hut-to-hut trekking to musical Salzburg to the charming salt-mining village of Hallstatt, which is like stepping into a fairytale. DESTINATIONS Salzburg This city is divided by the Salzach River, with medieval and baroque buildings of the … [Read more...]

Uluru, Australia – November 2017

November 1, 2017 by DaveLeave a Comment

This great rock has long been a focal point of the indigenous people's who have lived in the area for more than 20,000 years and who still live in its shadows. Sunrise and Sunset points are appropriately named and are great places to watch the suns hello and goodbye for the day. One can hike around the "rock" on a trail - or visit significant geological formations or places of significant cultural heritage. The Cultural Centre is in the … [Read more...]

Mountain Lines by Jonathan Arlan

November 1, 2017 by DaveLeave a Comment

Author Jonathan Arlan is bored; bouncing around from New York, to Tokyo ultimately to Europe - he becomes a wanderer. Eventually he spots a map while in Serbia. For some reason it 'speaks' to him - a red line that runs from Lake Geneva through the Alps ending in the Mediterranean Sea indicating a route of about 400 miles. His curiosity peaked, Not a likely candidate to make this walk (no prior outdoor experience, long hikes or knowledge of … [Read more...]
