Redding, CA – Nearby Lakes

by Dave · Leave a Comment

KESWICK DAM Lake Shasta gets all the recognition, and rightly so, but less then 15 minutes from downtown Redding is another 1940's era dam and reservoir. Keswik Reservoir was named after Lord Keswick, the president of a mining company. This area is rich in mining history (and we have even discovered some small pieces of gold in the surrounding region). Located directly south of Shasta Dam, this reservoir stretches for miles and it's width is … [Read more...]

Redding, CA – Museums

by Dave · Leave a Comment

Redding is not a hot-spot for museums - there are only several in town that are open to the public. We have visited and highlighted a few below. Behrens-Eaton House Museum is highly recommended for a personalized tour and look back in time - to the life of prominent judge Judge Richard Behrens Eaton who lived here until he died in 2003. Upon his death a trust he established stipulated that his home and grounds be turned into a museum open to … [Read more...]

Caldwell Park Named after a prominent Redding attorney, Claude Caldwell. Features 73 acres with many activities for all ages. During the hot summer months the aquatic park is highly popular - (especially the tall water slide). Open from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Also offers a skate park and a bike park for children. But perhaps one of the park's most appealing features is it's proximity to the Sacramento River and access to the Sacramento … [Read more...]

The Jolly Green Giant Flea Market in the town of Anderson (just south of Redding) is a one of a kind flea market held in a huge painted green building - the vendors also extend to the outside of this building. The flea market opened in 1980 with just a handful of vendors and has significantly grown since. This is an extensive permanent flea market in which there are at least a hundred plus vendors selling everything from used books, to … [Read more...]

Colima, Mexico

by Dave · 2 Comments

The city of Colima is located within one of the smallest states in the country - also called Colima. The city is located about 90 minutes inland from the more well known coastal town of Manzanillo and is only about a 30 minute drive from the Pacific coastline. Because Colima is at an elevation of between 300 and 550 meters, its climate is cooler then along the coastline. Colima was founded in 1523 and is the third city founded after the … [Read more...]

Colima, Mexico – Attractions

by Dave · Leave a Comment

Plaza Principal is the site of several interesting attractions. As I walked through this part of town, I was impressed by the cleanliness of the streets and sidewalks . This plaza is surrounded by the Liberty Garden which contains numerous painted white iron benches (great place to sit down and relax). Various shops and commercial businesses are located on the exterior of the plaza but aren't touristy souvenir type shops, as found in other … [Read more...]
