Los Angeles, CA

by Dave · 13 Comments

Los Angeles anchors the heart of Southern California and LA is the 'King' here in the south land. International tourists who visit California often say to me, I visited Los Angeles and San Francisco, and I really didn't like Los Angeles, but San Francisco was so awesome; it is such a small city - easy to get around, manageable, picturesque etc. Well that is not what LA is about. To the casual visitor Los Angeles can be extremely overwhelming to … [Read more...]

LA Freeways, Los Angeles Freeways

by Dave · 64 Comments

Los Angeles, CA – LA Freeways, Los Angeles Freeways - The freeways of Los Angeles and Orange County. The people of Southern California are in a love hate relationship with their freeways. The logo of Los Angeles could be a number of things, but it might very well in fact be one of the automobile. There is an intensity and power found on Los Angeles freeways rarely found in other big cities. The freeways in Los Angeles were among the first and … [Read more...]

Los Angeles, CA – Radio Stations

by Dave · 1 Comment

There are a number of radio stations broadcasting in the LA area. However, the variety of radio stations perhaps doesn't have the diversity as compared to other major cities. Also note that additional stations can be picked up if you have a HD Radio. Historical note: Have you noticed all those antennas on Mt Wilson? LA Radio pioneer Saul Levin is long time pioneering radio mogul who has lived in Los Angeles for many years. He started his … [Read more...]

Los Angeles, CA – Downtown

by Dave · Leave a Comment

For the nation's second largest city LA's downtown is actually very small and is eerily quiet on the weekends. On a number of occasions we have been standing in the middle of a major 6 lane boulevard in downtown just laughing to ourselves about the total lack of people and cars present! Certain streets are surprisingly empty. Depending on where you are (compared to the congestion of the freeways), even on weekdays parts of downtown can feel … [Read more...]

Los Angeles, CA – Gardens

by Dave · Leave a Comment

Arlington Garden Sometimes you need a break from the 210 or the 134 and you decide to pull off into Pasadena seeking a respite from the traffic and chaos of urban congestion. That place is the 3-acre Arlington Garden oasis located at 275 Arlington Dr in Pasadena. Free parking is curbside on Arlington Drive or on nearby residential streets. This free public garden (the only one in Pasadena) contains a number of short pathways winding through a … [Read more...]

Los Angeles, CA – Farmers Markets

by Dave · 2 Comments

There are well over 100 farmers' markets in Los Angeles County. We have visited 40+ farmers markets as listed below - and to date, two have earned our 'top choice' award; the Hollywood Farmers' Market every Sunday and the South Pasadena Farmers' Market on Thursday. We also list select farmers' markets in Orange County. When visiting a market for the first time, it is always a good idea to: 1. walk as much of the market as possible, … [Read more...]

Los Angeles, CA – Exposition Park

by Dave · Leave a Comment

Exposition Park is located across from USC and is one of LA's cultural hubs. This park is located off of the 110 freeway - well marked signs on the 110 indicate which exit to take. The Natural History Museum, California Science Center including the Air & Space building, the LA Coliseum (home to the 1932 and 1984 summer Olympics), the sunken rose garden, the African American Museum and other outdoor attractions are located here. Admission to … [Read more...]

Los Angeles, CA – Skiing

by Dave · Leave a Comment

Skiing - No you cannot ski in Los Angeles proper but there are a number of places to get to the snow during reasonable snowfall years within about 60 to 120 minutes drive of downtown Los Angeles. Big Bear Mountain is the most popular southland skiing area and boasts three ski areas: Bear Peak, Silver Mountain, and Goldmine Mountain. This is a bit further from Los Angeles than Mt. Baldy - with no traffic a drive will take about 2 hours … [Read more...]

Los Angeles, CA – Theme Parks

by Dave · 1 Comment

Disneyland Park is located at 1313 S Harbor Blvd off on the South West side of the 5 Freeway. You can take a free tram to the main park entrance from one of the parking garages. If you know where to look you can actually see parts of Disneyland peaking above the rest of the buildings as you zip down the 5 freeway. Everyone has heard of Disneyland with its theme rides, entertainment & attractions for all ages. This is the original Disneyland … [Read more...]

Los Angeles, CA – Museums

by Dave · 4 Comments

We have personally visited & reviewed the following 130+ Los Angeles and Orange County museums. We spend a lot of time in the City of Angels, therefore this section is continuously updated with new and updated reviews as time permits. Note: Monday is the worst day to spend visiting museums in Los Angeles as by numbers, most of the museums are closed (but not all). The small museums often maintain very limited hours.   African American … [Read more...]
