Top 3 Favorite Trips & One Bad One!

August 5, 2010 by DaveLeave a Comment

Time spent using public transportation are good opportunities to reflect on previous travels. One does not always get to do this; when you are addicted to travel you are often thinking about your next trip even during your current trip. I came up with a list of my top 3 favorite trips and the one "trip from hell". #1 Trip to Nepal I took in 1996 - this trip really turned me on to International travel and the hardships I personally faced … [Read more...]

Travel Life List

July 25, 2010 by Dave5 Comments

I was recently stuck in the Miami airport for 5 dreaded hours (not because of the particular airport, but because I hate long connection times) and I was talking to Maggie who runs Mighty Girl and maintains her own Life List. We were discussing top 10 life experience lists based on experts in their fields. My focus would be on travel of course; here is my top 10 list in no particular order. Perspective. This is a word that defines travel. … [Read more...]

Argentina to Chile border crossing in Patagonia

July 19, 2010 by Michael Zurakhinsky1 Comment

When you're high in the Andes, you can't help but be attuned to the scenery. Breathtaking, snow-capped peaks surround you, water rushes over falls as it hurries down the valleys, lakes brim with emerald water, and the world seems to spin just a little bit slower. Crossing through the Patagonia from Argentina into Chile is one of the best ways to explore the landscape and gives you a glimpse of the spectacular expanse that comprises the … [Read more...]

Architecture, Tango and Amazing Landscapes

January 11, 2009 by HostelBookersLeave a Comment

It's hard to know where to start when describing Argentina: a country of vibrant cities that somehow find their way onto every backpacker's wish list, Argentina is also a place of incredible diversity and natural beauty. From tango clubs in charmingly chaotic Buenos Aires to breathtaking treks across the Perito Moreno Glacier, it's a truly beguiling travel destination. What's more, despite its modern (and often quite 'European') metropolises, … [Read more...]

Almost alone in the Peruvian High Andes

November 26, 2008 by ElizabethLeave a Comment

I've been asked by several people why I'm spending all my time in the Andes and not seeing the rest of this diverse country. In my email below I provide my answer. I warn you that it's long, so if you are too busy or not interested, please delete now! I just returned from an incredible adventure in the mountains, and I'm at a loss for words... Whenever I visit spectacular scenery I always fail to find words to express the fullness of what I … [Read more...]

La vida Argentina: Passion. Protests. Mate. Puppy Eyed Stares.

September 24, 2008 by ElizabethLeave a Comment

Greetings from Buenos Aires! Salutaciones de Nuestra Senora de Santa Maria del Buen Aire! Its a cold but bright sunshine filled day in Buenos Aires. Just finished sipping a cappucino at a classic cafe in La Recoleta where the elderly men still dress in suits and older women wear fur coats for their afternoon java jolt. Prior to coffee we were communing with the dead in the Recoleta cemetery. Our taxi driver had difficulty … [Read more...]

Vines of Mendoza – May 2008

May 1, 2008 by DaveLeave a Comment

Arguably the centerpiece of the Vines of Mendoza is the resort and spa, a community built around 21 villas ranging from 1,000 to 2,700 square feet. Surrounded by vineyards and situated along the shoreline of a small body of water, the views from the villas are always spectacular especially of the snow capped Andes and during sunrise and sunset. Each villa is located within a short walking distance of the lobby, restaurant and gorgeous pool (with … [Read more...]

Siam de los Andes, Huaraz Peru Thai Restaurant – March 2008

March 1, 2008 by Dave2 Comments

Siam de los Andes Huaraz Peru Thai Restaurant is one of the best Thai restaurants in all of South America. In fact it is one of the best Thai restaurants that we've tried outside of Thailand and that is saying a lot as we have tried many. Siam de los Andes is run by the Thai climber Naresuan and this restaurant is very popular with climbers. It is located on the corner of Gamarra & Morales at Av Agustin Gamarra N 560. Naresuan has taught the … [Read more...]

Mendoza, Argentina

by Dave · 3 Comments

Mendoza has a population of about 1 million people. The city is located in a large desert valley next to the great Andes mountains, whose peaks dominate the skyline from the outside of the city. The valley here is truly desert, once you are outside of Mendoza one quickly sees the native vegetation is similar to desert scenery. However, there is plenty of water in the region as the great Andes are Mendoza's neighbor. A large drinking water … [Read more...]
