Monsoon Treks in Nashik: A Spiritual and Historical Journey on Brahmagiri and Beyond

August 10, 2025 by Urbanchats1 Comment

Last Sunday, I set out on a solo adventure that turned into one of my most memorable monsoon experiences in Nashik, my hometown. As a Nashik native, I’ve always been drawn to the Western Ghats during the rains, when the hills transform into a lush, misty paradise. This time, I chose to trek Brahmagiri and Bhandardurg Fort near Trimbakeshwar, a journey that blended nature, spirituality, and history in a way I hadn’t expected. Here’s my story, … [Read more...]

Penang Hill or Bust & the Lights of Kek Lok Si Temple

August 1, 2025 by Dave3 Comments

My friend dropped me off at the base of Penang Hill. He had strongly recommended I climb this in the early morning, but the night before we were out until nearly midnight enjoying the Chinese New Year festivities. Borrowing his umbrella, a lifesaver from the hot tropical sunshine, I set out on the Heritage Trail. This path, founded in 1890, led nearly straight up the mountain, climbing some nearly 800 meters to the top. It followed the funicular … [Read more...]

Sensorio: The Seventh Heaven of Sight and Sound

August 1, 2025 by Tom BentleyLeave a Comment

Peanut butter and jelly, ice cream and cake. Things that have stood the test of time, and taste. But light and sound—those have been around much longer than the others, and their impact is elemental. At Sensorio in Paso Robles, you can feel that impact, sometimes in subtle tugging at your eyes and ears, sometimes in dazzling sweeps of color and feeling. Sensorio is Fourth of July with a graduate degree. Where it is, is the rolling hills of … [Read more...]

Saline Valley Warm Springs, Death Valley – August 2025

August 1, 2025 by DaveLeave a Comment

This is arguably the coolest, best and most intriguing oasis in the entire state of California. If one were to plant a hot spring in the most remote of locations, it would be here - in Saline Valley. Certainly one of California's most remote desert valleys and one of the state's longest dirt roads - these hot springs are at least 3 hours from any sort of paved road. One can enter Saline Valley via either the North (Inyo mountains) or South passes … [Read more...]

Since ancient times, Spain has been a land of age-old roads, traveled by civilizations, traders, artists, pilgrims, and visionaries. Today, these routes are reborn through a new cultural and tourism initiative: Cruce de Caminos – Cultural Routes of Spain, a project that celebrates eight major heritage routes crossing the country from north to south and east to west, traversing regions rich in history, diversity, and life. Nuuskio National Park Finland – July 2025

July 1, 2025 by DaveLeave a Comment

Nuuskio National Park is easily accessible from Helsinki, Finland - about a 30 minute non stop bus ride or slightly longer with bus combined with train (stop in Espoo). The modern and state of the art Haltia "green" Visitor's center is the self proclaimed "gateway to Finland's National treasures) and is located about 2km outside of the park. A stop here is worthwhile for the interactive exhibits that explore Finland's natural heritage, a cafe … [Read more...]

62 Hours in Vail: A Perfect Summer Mountain Escape

June 27, 2025 by Dave13 Comments

Cradled in the heart of the Rockies, Vail is a high-altitude playground, an alpine escape where mountain adventure meets refined mountain charm. Within a long weekend, the temptation to do as much as possible is great, so I opted to find the right balance between adrenaline and après; this included indulging in a diversity of wonderful restaurants, outdoor experiences and time for relaxation. You will want to fly fish, do a bit of hiking, explore … [Read more...]
