Lost to the charm of Seville

February 24, 2017 by Teh Chin Liang2 Comments

Sometimes it is better to travel and be surprised by a destination rather then trying to do research ahead of time. My time in Seville has given me a new perspective about this beautiful part of Spain and my trip here has been without any preconceived expectations. Previously I had only heard of Sevilla through an opera that was based on a story about a barber - other than this fragment of knowledge I knew nothing about this charming little town … [Read more...]

Trier – Rome of the North

February 22, 2017 by Abdul RastagarLeave a Comment

“Ante Romam Treveris stetit annis mille trecentis” (Trier stood 1300 years before Rome) – legend of Trier’s founding.   Trier is the UNESCO World Heritage city you’ve never heard of. While you were busy swooning over Berlin’s modern architecture or Munich’s copious beer gardens, you’ve missed Germany’s most remarkable city, quietly minding its own business along the banks of the Mosel river, the way it always has for two and a half … [Read more...]

MGM National Harbor—Local Flavors, International Appeal

February 2, 2017 by Tom BentleyLeave a Comment

It may sound like a crock of balderdash to start out a review of a luxury resort with a statement about how happy the employees seem. Or that the property has transformed an area by emphasizing local hiring and local artists. But cross my heart, the service people weren’t smiling at Maryland’s MGM National Harbor resort because they were Westworld robots. And the place has such regional roots that the very clay from the property … [Read more...]

Eating Essentials in New Haven, CT

November 22, 2016 by Marianne Ruane2 Comments

I’m not a big fan of pizza. I like it well enough, but I had never had a pizza that I thought was extraordinary. There is one exception - I’m originally from Northeastern Pennsylvania and pizza from the town of Old Forge really is delicious. But with square cuts from a big rectangular crust, thick tomato sauce, and an American cheese blend, Old Forge pizza always seemed outside the realm of ordinary pizza, in its own category, at least in my … [Read more...]

Backpacking in Venezuela

October 31, 2016 by Stingy Nomads2 Comments

Waterfall in Jasper Canyon - Gran Sabana, Venezuela,

Venezuela must be one of the most unique countries I have ever been to. Since so few people travel here, most of what we heard, from its beauty to its dangerous reputation is a combination of myth and mystery. It is a country that has never been on my travel radar; Alya however has been talking about visiting the amazing Mount Roraima for a while. THE REPUTATION When we started to investigate we heard so much nonsense, it seemed like … [Read more...]

October 17, 2016 by Habeeb SalloumLeave a Comment

By Habeeb Salloum and Muna Salloum After spending a few days in Sydney, Cape Breton Island’s largest city, we felt that it was time to discover why Nova Scotia declares Cape Breton Island, ‘the masterpiece where your heart will never leave’. Vienna’s Josefstadt and Neubau Explored

October 11, 2016 by Barbara Cacao1 Comment

Vienna's Josefstadt and Neubau: Spittelberggasse

Vienna's Josefstadt and Neubau, by native Barbara Cacao, Vienna Unwrapped The local radio news sounded through the drugstore, where I was searching for toothpaste: A record number of tourists had been flocking to Vienna in 2016. The Vienna Tourism Office was at pains to promote new tourist attractions outside the city center to disperse the number of travellers huddling in the historic city centre. I was in my old neighbourhood Josefstadt: … [Read more...]
