by Dave · 2 Comments

We visit LA often so additional attractions will be highlighted here over time, as this is by no means an exhaustive list! Airports - LAX - Hollywood/Burbank (BUR) - John Wayne (SNA) - Long Beach (LGB) - Ontario (ONT) A Accomodation - Budget - Luxury - Moderate Beverly Hills - Robertson … [Read more...]

Los Angeles, CA – Downtown

by Dave · Leave a Comment

For the nation's second largest city LA's downtown is actually very small and is eerily quiet on the weekends. On a number of occasions we have been standing in the middle of a major 6 lane boulevard in downtown just laughing to ourselves about the total lack of people and cars present! Certain streets are surprisingly empty. Depending on where you are (compared to the congestion of the freeways), even on weekdays parts of downtown can feel … [Read more...]

Los Angeles, CA – Gardens

by Dave · Leave a Comment

Arlington Garden Sometimes you need a break from the 210 or the 134 and you decide to pull off into Pasadena seeking a respite from the traffic and chaos of urban congestion. That place is the 3-acre Arlington Garden oasis located at 275 Arlington Dr in Pasadena. Free parking is curbside on Arlington Drive or on nearby residential streets. This free public garden (the only one in Pasadena) contains a number of short pathways winding through a … [Read more...]

Los Angeles, CA – Studio Tours

by Dave · 3 Comments

The three "E's" are important on any good LA area studio tour. Energetic, Entertaining and Enthusiastic ! These items can come from the tour guide or from you and will contribute to an overall better tour. Asking a number of questions will benefit both you & the rest of your group. We have personally visited and toured at all of the major Los Angeles studios - our reviews, information and photos are listed below for each tour. Los Angeles, … [Read more...]

Los Angeles, CA – Beverly Hills

by Dave · Leave a Comment

Los Angeles, CA - Beverly Hills is a wealthy community much loved by locals and visitors. Drive around some of the local neighborhoods and into Bel Air. Whoooee. Fancy. You can see the homes in the flats, and each one has a clearly showing security sign on a stake driven into the ground somewhere in their front yard. Drive up into the hills and you are lucky if you can even see the homes - as often they are gated or protected in front by large … [Read more...]

Los Angeles, CA – Irvine

by Dave · Leave a Comment

Irvine (current population over 230,000) takes its namesake from James Irvine, the founder of Irvine Ranch (along with two partners). This huge ranch was originally 185 square miles of land (about a 1/4 of the entire present day Orange County). Irvine's son, also named James - inherited the ranch and then founded The Irvine Company in 1894. After his death in 1947 the company was controlled by his Foundation and stock holders. Eventually it was … [Read more...]

Los Angeles, CA – Newport Beach

by Dave · Leave a Comment

Newport Beach is located about 45 minutes to 1 hour south of Los Angeles. From downtown you would take the 110 South to the 405 South, to the 73 South, to the 55 West which runs right into PCH, Highway 1 in the middle of Newport Beach. Attractions here include shopping, especially at Fashion Island (an open air shopping complex) and touring the fancy homes on Balboa (a small lengthy peninsula just off the coast). During the holidays some of … [Read more...]

Los Angeles, CA – Pasadena

by Dave · 2 Comments

Pasadena is a sizable city located at the foot of the San Gabriel Mountains. You may have heard the popular 60's pop song, The Little Old Lady from Pasadena recorded by Jan and Dean...a classic that can still be enjoyed today especially with the windows rolled down driving down Colorado Blvd or part of the 210 or 134 Freeways! The city enjoys a high standard of living - it was founded when wealthy East Coaster's would build "winter" homes and … [Read more...]

Los Angeles, CA – Torrance

by Dave · Leave a Comment

Perhaps Torrance is not the first city you think of when visiting Los Angeles - but when digging into the city's history and unique attractions you quickly find that this is a city worth exploring. While flight was invented by the Wright Brothers near Kitty Hawk, North Carolina - it is in Torrance that flight was developed as a commercial entity. A number of company headquarters are located here - it is ground zero for International auto … [Read more...]

Los Angeles, CA – Venice Beach

by Dave · Leave a Comment

Venice Beach is located just south of Santa Monica along the edge of the Pacific Ocean. This is a town of eclectic dichotomy of street side artists and backpackers along with a mix of trendy upscale establishments. Venice is home to numerous actors and actresses and the city has been featured in a number of films and TV shows including Baywatch. Very popular with surfers and you will often see surfers riding bicycles with their surf boards … [Read more...]
