Wacky Packi Northern Pakistan

February 5, 2006 by Cheyney SteiningerLeave a Comment

The mere notion of coming to this country might send shudders up ones spine. But after my 2 months in Pakistan, the chills would be be because I'm so excited about the prospect of returning to one of the most beautiful countries one Earth. The initial excitement of entering the country via the dramatic Karakoram Highway subsides eventually, but a contentedness of being amidst the cool climes, stunning geography & welcoming locals sets in. … [Read more...]

Paros, Greece

by Dave · 1 Comment

The sun always shines with its comforting warmth, the beaches bask in its bright glow and the people are so tan they appear almost golden. This is Paros in the summer time. With the right balance between space, tourists and infrastrucutre complemented perfectly with beautiful vistas, Paros is one of our dream destinations. Located south of Athens among numerous islands, the two nearest islands are Antiparos and Naxos. Paros (population about … [Read more...]

Paros, Greece – Phones

by Dave · Leave a Comment

Excellent cell and data coverage exists throughout the island. We recommend using a phone that has a local SIM card installed with a pre-paid Internet and calling plan. This is the cheapest way to stay online - rather then using roaming data. Sim cards are sold at local convenience stores - or at the airport in Athens. Greek phones are operated by Organismos Tilepikoinonion Ellados. If you follow some simple steps when using a Greek telephone … [Read more...]

Paros, Greece – Ferries

by Dave · Leave a Comment

There are many ferries to choose from when sailing to and from Paros. Some are extremely large and are cruise ship like while others are much smaller and transfer passengers to Paros from Athens in several hours. Prices range from 50 Euros to over 85 Euros depending on the class of service you choose. The following site is an excellent source of ferry information including prices, ferry routes and timetables: Greekferries.gr Ferry Service … [Read more...]

Paros, Greece – Hydrofoils

by Dave · Leave a Comment

We took the hydrofoil on my our back from Paros. We were in more of a hurry to get back then we were when we first arrived. There are daily hydrofoils to all of the major island destinations including Naxos, Ios, Santorini, Mykonos, Tinos, and Rafina. Strintzis Lines owns and operates the Sea Jet I. This fast hydrofoil also services many of the island cities. More info and schedules here: www.athensinfoguide.com/gettingaroundferries.htm … [Read more...]

Paros, Greece – Airport

by Dave · Leave a Comment

The Paros Airport is located on the south western side of the island about 10 kilometers from Parikia. This airport replaced the old airport in 2016. At least 8 flights leave daily from Athens to Paros. Olympic Airways does not have an office in Parikia any more. For Olympic handling (info and reservations) one has to go to the airport in Aliki or call: (0030) 2284090908-9. Expect to pay about 100 Euros for a one way flight. Buses provide … [Read more...]

Paros, Greece – Restaurants

by Dave · Leave a Comment

Greek food when prepared authentically is some of my favorite food. Greek salads are towards the top of my culinary list. These usually consist of olives, lettuce, cucumbers, red onions, fresh tomatoes and a touch of dried oregano. I never had any problems with food sickness on Paros and I ate at many different restaurants. There is nothing quite like eating authentic Greek food along the waterfront of Parikia watching the sun go down on a … [Read more...]

Paros, Greece – Attractions

by Dave · 1 Comment

If you rent a car or moped on Paros you can easily discover attractions on your own. Many small quaint towns are located in the center of the island and on the southeast side. Several beaches are best accessed by a moped because of their rugged and more remote locations. Looking for some time to relax, see Parikia, other small towns on the island while also visiting some beaches? I would highly recommend at least 5 days on Paros. Do not just come … [Read more...]

Paros, Greece – Parikia

by Dave · Leave a Comment

Parikia is the hub of Paros. The large whitewashed windmill is a prominent landmark which greets visitors when entering Parikia Bay; it stands next to the ferry arrival and departure area. This windmill's thatched roof seems to be in a state of progressed decay and its large windmill is usually just a skeleton. Typically there are several large cloths that are draped over the wood supports. Did you know that it actually snowed in Paros in … [Read more...]

Paros, Greece – Lodging

by Dave · Leave a Comment

The following are some hotels in Parikia, the largest city on Paros. Keep in mind you will see lots of hotel owners trying to lure you to their particular hotel as soon as you step off of the ferry. If you try to get lodging through them, make sure you bargain. I prefer to stay in or near Parikia over Naoussa because it is a larger city, there is more going on in town, and you are more centrally located for reaching other parts of the … [Read more...]
