My Personal Experience of Record Breaking Extreme Heat in Death Valley

July 6, 2013 by Dave16 Comments

Similar to the International notice for the Mavericks Surf Competition in Central California, I sent out our annual 48 hour window of notice to friends, family and acquaintances from around the world on Thursday June 27, 2013 - indicating temperatures were forecast for record highs in Death Valley, California USA. This was a tough sell for a number of reasons - especially because it is always a last minute notice, it is quite early in the season … [Read more...]

Let Les Bons Temps Roules in Red New Orleans

July 5, 2013 by John EdwardsLeave a Comment

John M. Edwards discovers New Orleans unique cuisine to be out of this world, not just Creole and Cajun clichés (“Gumbo” and “Jambalaya”), but also, well, nothing beats an Oyster Poboy! At the legendary Napoleon House in New Orleans, Lousiana, I found myself expectantly dreaming of a dressed “Oyster Poboy,” especially since they had not even one of them on their menus. (Hurricane Katrina had literally wiped out many of the oyster beds way back … [Read more...]

Basking in the Warmth of Santa Catalina Island

June 26, 2013 by DaveLeave a Comment

Catalina provides the calm, quiet and the rural contrast to the urban 24/7 hum of the city of Los Angeles. The Ying and Yang of urban versus rural environments, if you will. Catalina is world's away yet still within the confines of Los Angeles County. In reality the island is only approximately 50 miles away from the extreme contrast of pulsating clubs and the craziness of late night parties on Sunset or Hollywood Blvds. We conveniently stayed … [Read more...]

Oaxaca and Huatulco Mexico Tourism Dinner, Los Angeles

June 22, 2013 by Dave2 Comments

I recently attended a Oaxaca promotion dinner at Geulaguetza restaurant - an authentic restaurant serving Oaxacan cuisine surprisingly located in the heart of Koreatown Los Angeles. One of our contributors and photographers Michelle Yam recently went on a trip to Huataluco along the coast in the state of Oaxaca and invited me to this dinner. The presentation was to promote tourism to the region, inspire and excite us about the wonders of … [Read more...]

Top 5 Canadian Cities Worth Exploring

June 17, 2013 by Lloyd J.1 Comment

Canada, sitting just north of the United States of America, consists of ten different provinces and three territories. It stretches to the Atlantic Ocean in the east, the Arctic Ocean to the north, and the Pacific Ocean on the west side, and spans almost ten million square kilometres, making it the second largest country by total area. It’s a pretty fantastic place – although it was explored and settled by British and French forces from the … [Read more...]

Traffic Jam in Manilla

May 11, 2013 by John EdwardsLeave a Comment

John M. Edwards trades in his Jeepney for a cab ride to a connecting flight through the traffic-jam capital of the world: Manila! On my way back from Cebu in the Philippines, with my then preggers girlfriend, we received word from the crackling cockpit that our plane was making an unscheduled stop in Manila, so all passengers could connect from another airport to their intended destinations. “WHAT?!” my now-ex girlfriend Susan Shrike (not … [Read more...]

Betty White Rings in Grinchmas at Universal Studios Hollywood!

December 9, 2012 by DaveLeave a Comment

This past Thursday we were invited to an event at Universal Studios - featuring long time actress Betty White (90 years young and looking great!). She was there to receive the "Who-Manitarian of the Year" award - a play on words tied into the holiday season and the Christmas Grinch. Besides being an accomplished actress, Ms. White has also dedicated her life to the welfare of animals. Her lifelong dedication to animal welfare has earned her … [Read more...]

Hiking Mt. Hollywood & Endeavor Appearance

October 12, 2012 by Dave5 Comments

I had another epic few days in Los Angeles. As like nearly all my visits to town, this one was a whirlwind event filled few days. I was invited by LA City Councilman Tom LaBonge on a hike of Mt. Hollywood to honor the London summer olympics as well as the closing of summer. This is a great hike - 1.5 miles to the summit nearly all up hill. The day was hot, the day was clear - I sweated as I climbed with fellow travelers @michelleyam and … [Read more...]
