Alaska: Wilderness Unbound

June 30, 2017 by Matthew Writer2 Comments

Alaska is absurd. Bears, moose, mammoth mountains, soaring pines, jagged peaks, water streaming past boulders, surging down valleys, crashing against sand. We started in South Dakota, attending a wedding in the Black Hills the weekend prior to departure. This was July of 2014. On Sunday, we drove to Denver, hopping an Alaska Airlines flight to Seattle, using two companion certificates. Our departure from Seattle to Anchorage was delayed. We … [Read more...]

Road Trip: From Marble Colorado to Fort Worth Texas

June 20, 2017 by Fern LeeLeave a Comment

We decided to take a road trip after our holiday from Marble, Colorado to Fort Worth, Texas to visit some friends. It was going to be long, tiring and dusty. But we were intrigued by a number of magical and odd sights along the way. First stop: Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve. GPS tells us it will take 5 hours from Marble climbing over mountains. We ascend slowly up to 10,200 feet and reach the pinnacle of the Rockies on the 10th … [Read more...]

How To Travel Comfortably And Hassle Free With Children?

June 12, 2017 by Umesh JLeave a Comment

We all tend to get tense when we have to travel with children. After all, travel with children can be a significant undertaking, especially since children come with their own special needs, habits and wants. Parents who are vacationing with their kids for the first time are naturally more nervous. However, all that anxiousness and worry can be done away with if we are a little more prepared and plan well ahead. Traveling with children can be … [Read more...]

Going Green: Alaska Ecotourism

May 26, 2017 by Marsha WasselLeave a Comment

Sunset over Skilak Lake.

There is a rush to Alaska. In 1898 the stampede was for gold. Today visitors are heading to the 49th state seeking the ultimate wilderness experiences in a land filled with superlatives. Alaska is the largest and western-most state. It has the longest days, the biggest fish, the longest coastline, and the most extensive wilderness (53 percent). The challenge is how to balance over two million visitors a year with conservation ethics, … [Read more...]

St. Lucia Stopover, ARC Race & Captain Lars

May 25, 2017 by Dave4 Comments

So far my latest trip to the Caribbean has involved a variety of transportation modes, a bicycle, a bus, walking, plane and now a helicopter. In the fading rays of the strong sunshine on the island of st. Lucia I hopped on board a helicopter for a 10 minute journey over the interior of the island from Hewanorra International Airport in the south to George F. L. Charles Airport in Castries City in the north. The interior of the island is … [Read more...]

Corpus Christi is Really Unique!

April 11, 2017 by Rich Pearce6 Comments

Baby Sea Turtle - Corpus Christi, Texas

All I knew about Corpus Christi, Texas, before I visited my step-daughter, Michelle, and her family there this summer was that it was a seaside vacation town on the Gulf of Mexico. I expected to find a typical American beach resort, replete with masses of tourists and messy hedonistic vitality. And, that’s what I found - in part. Corpus Christi certainly deserves its reputation as a fun and entertaining place to vacation. And, despite its size … [Read more...]

Hitchhiking a boat across the Atlantic Ocean

April 9, 2017 by Jakob Horvat2 Comments

My mission was clear: "Hitchhiking from Austria to America" by land and sea. Sailing across the Atlantic Ocean was the last episode of this first part of my world trip. And there had been moments when I seriously wondered "why the hell am I doing that?" Why should I cover a distance of 2.700 nautical miles on a 38 feet sailing catamaran? What's the point in swinging over a million waves when one can so easily fly over the? Why taking a boat, that … [Read more...]

48 hours in Los Angeles – Fast, Furious and Fun!

April 3, 2017 by Charlene Scott6 Comments

When you think of Los Angeles, the first thing you think of is Hollywood. But there are many other things to do there that are not related to tinsel town. Recently, I spent a whirlwind weekend in Los Angeles. I hurried off my delayed Southwest flight, found the shuttle bus to the Westin Hotel at Los Angeles Airport. Fifteen minutes later, a quick ride by LA standards, I flew into the hotel room where my friend had already arrived. A quick change … [Read more...]
