Key West, FL

by Dave · 1 Comment

Key West is the southern most city in the United States. It sits on the last major island at the end of the Florida Keys. The weather ranges from balmy, hot, & humid to quite pleasant in the winter months. The rainy season is in the summer time. The dry season is during the winter months. Temperatures in Key West during the middle of January often are in the low 80's when the rest of the nation is being blanketed by snow drifts or is fighting … [Read more...]

Audubon House & Gardens is located at 205 Whitehead Street. Phone 305 294-2116. This house was the home of a 19th century Key West Settler named Captain John H. Geiger. This building was restored in 1960. The reason it is named the Audubon House is because Mr. Audubon the naturalist visited Key West in 1832. Special exhibitions are shown in the second floor gallery. Be sure to tour the gardens where exotic plants are growing. The Audubon house … [Read more...]

To begin this section I would like to offer one of the more popular recipes for Key Lime Pie. This well-known pie is a specialty dessert of the Florida Keys. This particular recipe was taken from Key Kookin by the late great Glad Whitley. Ingredients: 4 eggs (separated) 1 cup sugar 1 tablespoon sugar 1 tablespoon gelatin (in 1/2 cup ice water) 1 half cup Key lime juice 1 half teaspoon salt Beat egg yolks until thick, add 1/2 cup … [Read more...]

Prices may drop by half during the off season in the summer. However, the prices will still be quite high. Visitors to Key West should start their journey at the Key West Welcome Center located at 1601 North Roosevelt Blvd. Friendly staff provide current travel … [Read more...]

Key West, FL – Shops

These are just a few of the cool shops found on or around Duval Street in downtown Key West. Dave has visited all of the shops listed here (although we have removed many over the years because they are no longer in business). One neat thing about these shops that you can't find in most small US cities is that many of them are open late into the night. Most are open until at least 10pm. Key West is home to numerous creative … [Read more...]

Key West, FL – More Info

One of the best recommendations I can give - before blindly trying to see Key West is pick up one of the numerous travel guides found on the island. In addition to helpful tips about traveling in the area, these often contain valuable coupons for lodging, restaurants, ferries, museums, and other attractions. One of the most informative travel guides to the Florida Keys is the official tourism guide. This is available on the web at … [Read more...]
