Dreaming of a One Week Road trip in Nova Scotia

May 28, 2014 by Dave6 Comments

I have been to Western Canada several times, exploring the inspirational Canadian Rockies of Alberta and British Columbia. Yet on my next visit to our neighbor to the north, I plan to stay east. I’ve got my eye on a visit to Nova Scotia. When I travel, I love to visit a mix of both urban and natural settings. I love the adrenaline rush of cities, with their variety of attractions, museums and restaurants, but I also relish the inspiration the … [Read more...]

The National Road Transport Hall of Fame, Alice Springs Australia

May 24, 2014 by DaveLeave a Comment

So where do old semi's, trucks, road trains and other wheels of the road go to rest? If it is in Australia, most likely to the National Road Transportation Museum in Alice Springs - a small community located along the legendary Ghan train line about one half way between Adelaide in the South and Darwin in the North. When your focus is on large vehicles you need a significant amount of space! This privately owned museum is just outside of town … [Read more...]

In Search of Dracula and Gothic Legends

May 14, 2014 by Dianne ThomasLeave a Comment

At the foot of the mountain pass, tips of Gothic turrets and towers loom into sight above the stretch of dense evergreen which nestle between the Bucegi and Piatra Craiului Mountains. Having driven, (and survived!) through the Romanian winding roads since early dawn, the clouds now reveal a dramatic backdrop of ancient forests and mountain peaks. When the castle finally comes into view, distant memories of late-night films fill the impending … [Read more...]

Pebble Beach Food & Wine Weekend

May 2, 2014 by Dave4 Comments

The Pebble Beach Food and Wine Weekend is only in its seventh year yet remarkably it seems like it should be much older than that. In such a short time it has become the West Coast's premier food and wine event. It is an intriguing pairing - matching some of the world's best wine with top chefs in a location that is visually stunning. The inspirational rugged coastline and natural beauty is the backdrop for a long weekend of decadence and at … [Read more...]

Los Angeles Exploration and Public Transportation

April 21, 2014 by Kate MayerLeave a Comment

Los Angeles and public transportation seem to be diametrically opposed, but the City of Angels does have a well-placed system of buses accessible from numerous reaches of this large metropolis. Yet, the use of public transportation here, unlike many other major cities is unfortunately rooted in classism; people of a certain social strata do not take the bus. This bias seems frivolous, as the buses are clean, cheap and fairly easy to access and … [Read more...]

What to do in Seoul

April 18, 2014 by Leslie FinlayLeave a Comment

When traveling to East Asia Western tourists often hawk to Tokyo or cities in China, not to mention Hong Kong, which attracts an astonishing 50 million visitors per year. Largely left off the itinerary is Seoul, acting often as a stopover point (which is appropriate, as Incheon Airport has been named the best airport in the world.) But tourism in South Korea is gaining traction. It’s repeatedly been voted the world’s most wanted travel … [Read more...]

Visa run to Cambodia

April 15, 2014 by DaveLeave a Comment

My visa within Thailand was expiring in 2 days. Time to make another run for the border. Usually we are off in another country at some point during our time in Thailand so this is not an issue. But this year we just stayed domestic. Poipet on the Cambodia border is the closest border crossing to our village so we headed out that way. We reached this dusty chaotic border town in 2 hours. As is always the case we were met with enterprising men … [Read more...]
