Larry Jacobson: Sailor, Author

March 16, 2011 by DaveLeave a Comment

Larry Jacobson spent 6 years of his life sailing around the world - leaving from and returning to San Francisco California. March 1, 2011 by Miss Moci1 Comment

There are a few night clubs and bars that had such an impact that they defined entire eras of nightlife in cities. In New York it was Studio 54 or The Moulin Rouge in Paris. If not, you might have still heard glorious stories about this epic place. In the 7 years of existence the BAR 25 had transformed … [Read more...]

GranMonte Vineyards, All in the Family

February 26, 2011 by DaveLeave a Comment

After returning from Brunei and a quick day of rest we set out for the jungles of Khao Yai National Park and part of Thailand's "wine trail". GranMonte Vineyards located in the heart of the small Asoke Valley was the highlight of our day. This winery was founded by Thai couple Visooth and Sakuna Lohitnavy. Their daughter Visootha (or Nikki) is Thailand's first female winemaker (only in her 20's, she has many harvests ahead of her). The entire … [Read more...]

Glimpses of a Golden Age

February 23, 2011 by Catherine SweeneyLeave a Comment

"Fight for a just cause. Love your fellow man. Live a good life." Taking the first two letters of each part of his motto, William Bourn named his lavish country estate Filoli. Bourn indeed lived a very good life in this 36,000 sq ft mansion with its 43 rooms and 17 fireplaces. The estate was built with his gold mining money in 1917, sold to shipping magnate, William Roth, in 1937 and is now maintained by The National Trust for Historic … [Read more...]

Enjoying the Cuisine

February 18, 2011 by Dave2 Comments

Mosaic restaurant is the "signature" restaurant at Zitahli resort. Each day we pop in for lunch and every lunch we order a Brazilian Capirinha. I fell in love with this drink after visiting Brazil in 09' and purposely seek it out when there is a bar at hand. Needless to say, seafood is a big part of the menu and its not often you can catch your own fish, fresh from the ocean the day before and have a fancy restaurant prepare it as your lunch. we … [Read more...]

Another day in Paradise, Maldives

February 16, 2011 by Dave5 Comments

Another day in Paradise. Roxy Maldives (formerly Zitahli Resort) is one of only two resorts in this entire atoll of islands. There's no one around once you get on a boat and head away from the island. Even on the island you don't see very many people except at meal times a few will wander in. Empty white sand beaches, coral reefs, a natural lagoon and azure water that beckons one for a swim are all part of the attraction of a stay here. Oh, and … [Read more...]
