Istanbul, Turkey – Must See Attractions

by Dave · Leave a Comment

Some of the primary historical attractions are only open on certain days of the week. Many are open from Tuesday through Sunday and are closed Mondays. Dave has visited the following sites within Istanbul. Blue Mosque (Sultanahmet Camii) was constructed in the early 1600's. Admission is free but donations are accepted. Because this is such a heavily visited tourist destination, tourists are only allowed to enter from one of the side doors … [Read more...]

Istanbul, Turkey – Around Istanbul

by Dave · Leave a Comment

A drive to the towns of Polonezkoy, Sile and Agva (all mentioned below) makes a fun day trip, including a stop at the Black Sea. The road to these towns and back to Istanbul is a small narrow windy road that passes through rolling hills - mostly natural landscapes. The author visited all of the locations below. Agva is one of the main weekend getaways for citizens of Istanbul. It is located directly on the Black Sea. As with many of the other … [Read more...]

This huge flea market was founded in 1960 and advertises over 8 miles of vendors. This market is located on Berryessa Road about 1.5 miles in from the 101 freeway in San Jose and is open Wednesday, Friday and the weekends. There are several huge parking lots all located approximately across from the actual flea market. If you visit on the weekends expect to walk 5-10 minutes to the main entrance due to the crowds. by Dave · 5 Comments

Ho Chi Minh City, (HCMC) or Saigon (District 1), was founded about 300 years ago. This is Vietnam's largest city with around 9 million people. For comparison, the roots of Hanoi in the north date back to the 3rd century BC and that city was founded more then 1000 ago. Ho Chi Minh City can be explored on bike or foot. However be aware that traffic conditions can be horrific at times - Ho Chi Minh City features thousands of motor bikes - they … [Read more...]

Saigon, Vietnam – Restaurants

by Dave · Leave a Comment

Overall, compared to Thai food Vietnamese food is much less spicy and more bland. You can choose from a variety of soups (called Pho's), seafood dishes, vegetable dishes, rolls, and rice dishes. You can have an excellent dinner for around $10 - you can however, eat much cheaper than this if you like. There are also some excellent French restaurants in Saigon as well as coffee shops. The following are a few restaurants that Dave frequented … [Read more...]

Cuzco, often called the "tiled" city is located at about 10,600 feet in the great Andes mountains. While Cuzco certainly has instant name recognition, it is best known as the gateway to Machu Picchu. These ruins are among the world's greatest combination of both the human and the natural world and attract visitors from around the planet. However, travelers should also spend a few days in and around Cuzco. Cuzco, as a result of being the largest … [Read more...]

Cuzco, Peru – Food

by Dave · Leave a Comment

For a tourist town, restaurants in Cuzco are priced fairly decently. The most expensive restaurants and not always the most authentic ones are located near the main square. These restaurants will usually have aggressive sales people standing outside holding menus and yelling at you to come into their restaurant. They will often entice you with a "free drink card" usually for a complimentary Picso Sour. Be aware of some of these restaurants, … [Read more...]
