Tori James, Adventurer and Speaker

August 6, 2016 by Dave1 Comment

I briefly met Tori earlier this year at a travel blogging conference (Traverse) 16 in Cardiff, Wales where she gave the opening welcome speech. Her adventures are nothing short of amazing, reaching the summit of Mt. Everest at age 25, participating in the first ever all-female team in a 360 mile race to the Magnetic North Pole (successfully reaching the pole), and significant cycling, kayaking and other outdoor adventure feats. She is an … [Read more...]

My Guide to the Algarve

July 27, 2016 by Becky YoungLeave a Comment

The Algarve seems to be getting a bad-rap lately.  People imagine hordes of European holidaymakers flocking there for their annual trip.  But that’s not the case, in my experience.  With its incredible red-cliffed coastline and beautiful, quaint little towns and villages, the Algarve has all the ingredients of the perfect relaxing holiday that you should be dying to go on. Where to stay Resorts are the accommodation of choice in the … [Read more...]

The American’s Guide to Martinique

June 2, 2016 by Chris Picardi6 Comments

We decided to go to Martinique purely because we found extremely affordable tickets nonstop from Boston. Norwegian Airlines (yes that is a real airline) now has a direct flight from Boston to Fort de France for $220 which almost sounds too good to be true. Prior to stumbling upon these flights, we knew absolutely nothing about the island, but after our week-long adventure we consider ourselves experts and wish to share our new-found knowledge … [Read more...]

Heli Ski Alaska? Heli Yes!

May 11, 2016 by Susan Betteridge2 Comments

My penultimate bucket list ski experience has always been to heli ski in Alaska—miles of untouched powder and fresh lines for days. No lift lines, no resort creature comforts and nothing but badass skiing. As my blog will tell you, after a year of planning I was pretty stoked when my brother and I joined up with Dean Cummings’ H2O Guides to heli ski the 4,000 square-mile playground called the Chuggach Mountains near Valdez, Alaska. Whether … [Read more...]

Notes from Basecamp Ortelius, Drake’s Passage

March 28, 2016 by DaveLeave a Comment

Upon boarding the Basecamp Ortelius in anticipation of our Antarctica cruise (the ice breaker ship we will be on for the next 13 days) I immediately noticed a few of the staff wearing shorts. Remarking to one of them that it is awfully cold for that kind of apparel, they quickly replied with, "if you think it is cold now, just wait until we get to Antarctica!" Nonetheless, the wind was bone chilling as we pulled out of lovely Ushuaia - the … [Read more...]

The Adventure Sports Capital of Colombia

March 15, 2016 by Maggie Abernathy4 Comments

The tiny town of San Gil, Colombia, is known as the “adventure sports capital of Colombia,” and my time there definitely lived up to the name. There are activities to suit every level of adventurer, including bungee jumping, paragliding, adventure caving, white water rafting, kayaking, cycling, rappelling, and canyoning. The central plaza in this friendly little town is a great place to unwind with a beer or a frozen mojito after a long day of … [Read more...]

Anguilla Watersports, Anguilla – March 2016

March 2, 2016 by DaveLeave a Comment

Anguilla WaterSports was founded by Judson Burdon in 2013. However he originally moved to Anguilla in 2000, fell in love with the slow pace of the island, water sports and never left. When talking to him, one will quickly feel the passion and energy he has for the ocean and water sports. Conversation soon turns to top surfing spots around the world - some of which he has personally surfed. He is also an avid kite surfer having setup a … [Read more...]

Upcoming Antarctica Trip, Ortelius Basecamp – Oceanwide Expeditions

February 16, 2016 by DaveLeave a Comment

Antarctica has been on my list of remote places to visit for years - I never have done so because of a variety of reasons, one has to cross the Drake Passage (supposedly one of the world's most treacherous waters - I get very bad sea sickness at times) and the cost of getting there - which as demand grows to visit the costs seem to have gone down (just a cursory observation). I randomly met Dan and Audrey of the travel site, Uncornered Market … [Read more...]

Oceanwide Expeditions Antarctica Contest

January 27, 2016 by Dave4 Comments

I recently started working with Oceanwide Expeditions, a Netherlands based cruise company focusing on the planet's remote extreme north and south destinations (the Arctic and Antarctica). Founded in 1996, they are a pioneering company in the exploration of these parts of the world via cruise ships. Today they offer 25 cruises to Antarctica alone using small ice-hardened expedition vessels. Their ships are the 'basecamp' anchored off shore for a … [Read more...]
