Visit Bonaire, Caribbean – October 2018

October 1, 2018 by DaveLeave a Comment

Bonaire is a small mostly flat island that is part of the Netherlands' overseas territories. Along with Aruba and Curacao it makes up the ABC islands - Bonaire is by far the least developed of these three islands. Very popular with divers - there are numerous marked dive sites - especially along the Queens Highway north of Kralendijk (the primary town on the island). Many of these dive sites can be accessed directly from the shore. The island … [Read more...]

The land in the north has many things to offer for those who enjoy the closeness to nature or walking old streets with embedded history. Slave Trade Sites Part 2: Gorée Island, Senegal.

August 18, 2018 by Pete Martin3 Comments

It’s a short ferry ride to Île de Gorée (Gorée Island) from Senegal’s capital, Dakar. I wonder if I can take another day of slave museums in my worn-out state after a severely delayed flight. I quickly regret this stupid thought. Of course I can; it’s only a lack of sleep. It bears absolutely no comparison with what these people went through, so I’m sure that I can find the energy to pay my respects. Everything is calm belying the awful … [Read more...]

High Peaks Resort Offers 3 Distinctive Lodging Options in Lake Placid Village

May 20, 2018 by Steve Mirsky1 Comment

Tucked above Main Street overlooking the shores of Mirror Lake The Resort at High Peaks was originally built as the Lake Placid Hilton in 1980 to accommodate Winter Olympics crowds. Much later in 2008 it experienced a rebirth with a complete overhaul redeveloping every aspect of the property except its original footprint. The Resort at High Peaks exudes a lake front retreat vibe rather than in-town hotel until you descend a stairway to … [Read more...]

Top Water Activities to Enjoy and Items to Bring on Your Costa Rica Vacation

April 13, 2018 by Derrick M1 Comment

Many of us are naturally drawn to the water. After all, there's nothing quite like the sense of exhilaration one feels as their boat sails over the waves, or experiencing the sense of peace, stillness, and tranquility that comes from being alone in the sea. Freshwater adventures can also be fantastic, which is why making landfall once in a while during your sailing trip is a good idea. For example, Costa Rica has numerous inland rivers to … [Read more...]

Sweet dreams are made of this: From Russia (with love) to South Korea by ferry

December 23, 2017 by Pete Martin2 Comments

Sweet dreams are made of this. From Russia (with love) to South Korea by Ferry I get a good night's sleep after the wonderful exploration of Vladivostok yesterday. I think about taking a bus to the funicular railway, one of only two in Russia. The second one has just been built in Sochi for the recent Winter Olympics. However, I choose a lie-in and a good breakfast instead. The warmth of the hotel compared to the freezing temperatures outside … [Read more...]

Why now is the time to visit Cyprus

November 18, 2017 by Dave14 Comments

After visiting the island of Cyprus last year (located in the far eastern reaches of the Mediterranean Sea) I became enchanted by it's beauty, the slower pace of life in the small towns, its food (including seafood) and drink and the mesmerizing beauty of it's beaches. I visited Pissouri (only about a 90 minute drive from Nicoscia). Pissouri allowed me to check off everything I was looking for in a relaxing Mediterranean … [Read more...]
