Street Food in Penang

December 18, 2009 by LyndseyLeave a Comment

Penang, an island on the east coast of Malaysia, is home to beautiful beaches, a colonial splendor, and exotic imperial architecture. But, I return every year to eat from a little cart by the side of the road. And I am not alone. When the British set up the port of Penang, they created a confluence point for Chinese, Thai, Malay and Indian traders who brought their own foods and their own spices to the island. Street food is a way of life in … [Read more...]

Dapitan: A Living Legacy in the Philippines

October 9, 2009 by Junfil OlarteLeave a Comment

Roused from sleep, I sat up. Something was excitingly moving at my seat that afternoon of April 14, 2007. It was 2.30 p.m., and the thrill in the voice of a woman beside me was unmistakable. "Wake up, we're about to arrive!" Over the years, I'm used to travelling to places alone: domestic and foreign. And an easy acquaintance with foreigners isn't new to me. "We must book accommodation to Dakak right away," Sandra, the German tourist … [Read more...]

The following is a description of a 4 day 3 night guided tour to the Sundarbans in Southern Bangladesh. Turkey Welcomes You

June 9, 2009 by Lorena Di Nola1 Comment

"Turkish hospitality is impossible to ignore", proclaims the in-flight magazine as I fly to Bodrum. You can't miss it when you set foot in the airport: the welcome visa costs $20. By the exit, the passengers are greeted by a forest of A4 sheets with the names of the people to take to the hotel. It is nice to go to an unknown place, and find somebody waiting for you and calling you by name: in this case, Turkish hospitality will set you back $40. … [Read more...]

May 28, 2009 by HostelBookersLeave a Comment

Booking a budget holiday can be a challenge during the summer months, when the costs of hotel rates, flights and package holidays soar - and that's before you've even begun to consider the cost of food and sight-seeing when you're out there! Luckily there is a way to cut back with sacrificing your fun in the sun. Choose a beach hostel over an expensive hotel and you'll get much more for your money.
