Istanbul’s Secret Gems

February 5, 2016 by Serhat Engul2 Comments

Istanbul’s Secret Gems Visitors to Istanbul have a general expectation of seeing an exotic place at the easternmost of Europe. This expectation is definitely appropriate but what the city offers is actually way beyond it. It is not for nothing that Istanbul is regarded as a city founded on two continents. The city offers its visitors many examples from both European and Asian cultures, acting as a bridge between them. Sometimes you feel … [Read more...]

Experience the Epic Fushimi Inari Shrine in Kyoto, Japan

February 2, 2016 by Jacob Laukaitis2 Comments

I am Jacob Laukaitis, a 21 year old digital nomad, who’s already been to more than 30 countries in the last 2 years. I love making videos of places I visit so here’s one from my last trip to the Fushimi Inari Shrine in Kyoto, Japan. The shrine predates the year 794 when the capital of Japan was moved to Kyoto. This shrine sprawls entirely around the mountain featuring hundreds of small shrines, thousands of sculptures and more than 10,000 … [Read more...]

An Afternoon in Brooklyn’s Park Slope

January 13, 2016 by Brian Cicioni1 Comment

I recently spent a Sunday afternoon in Brooklyn’s Park Slope. There were a handful of places I wanted to visit to make the nearly 30 minute trip from Washington Square Park worthwhile. I played U2’s The Joshua Tree on my new iPhone 6S and boarded the D train to the Atlantic Av-Pacific St. From there, I intended to transfer to the 2-3 line, but there was a delay, so I boarded the Q train and took it one stop to 7 Av instead. This area was new … [Read more...]

2016 Seasonal Celebrations in Buena Park

January 6, 2016 by Dave1 Comment

Buena Park, California is known for its world-class attractions and year round warm weather but what is often overlooked is the destinations ever changing events that make it a unique experience with every visit. Winter While Santa is checking his list twice, elves transform Knott’s Berry Farm into Merry Farm from the end of November through December. The holiday makeover includes a 60-foot Christmas tree lighting, festive decorations and … [Read more...]

The Pottery Village in the Mountains of Japan

January 3, 2016 by Simone Armer3 Comments

In the final months of my last year at university, I took a trip to Hogsback, a small village in the Eastern Cape, to meet a potter named Anton. He agreed to be the subject of a soundslide I was producing for my portfolio and was kind enough to let me shadow him for a day. Tucked away in the forests of the Amatole Mountains, his studio overlooked a carpet of tree tops and was filled with the chirping of the forest’s louder residents. There … [Read more...]

Exploring the Quaint and Colorful Colonial Town of El Quelite

December 29, 2015 by Alexa Meisler2 Comments

El Quelite, a quaint town 25 miles northeast of Mazatlán is the perfect day trip for anyone interested in exploring an authentic Mexico experience. The small town sits on the bank of the river El Quelite and is known locally for practicing the pre-Hispanic game Ulama, which has important ritual aspects for the town and its native population. The main street in the village is lined with buildings of Spanish classical influence with red … [Read more...]

Sunny Las Vegas on a Budget

December 25, 2015 by Kurt JacobsonLeave a Comment

Las Vegas vacations don’t have to be expensive. For starters, airfare from BWI Airport runs just over $200 roundtrip and many other airports have similar deals. On many trips to Vegas I have stayed at hotels on and off the Strip; I highly recommend Excalibur to those that want an affordable on-strip hotel. The rooms are clean, comfortable, and good sized for a fraction of what you would pay other on-strip hotels. Last time I paid just $54.80 per … [Read more...]

Sark: Britain’s Lost Channel Island

December 23, 2015 by Richard Collett2 Comments

Sark

'Welcome to Sark'- the sign read as I climbed the harbour steps onto the island. With rain lashing down, I ran through a short tunnel carved through the rock of the cliff- the only entrance to the island- and on the other side found a farming tractor, carriage in tow, parking up on the side of the road. 'There's the bus!' someone said, and everyone clambered on for the ride up the hill. This was Sark, an island of only a few square miles … [Read more...]

Australia, My Whirlwind Tour, West to East

December 22, 2015 by Megan Smith1 Comment

Australia is such a large country, making the decision to visit a very important and exciting one. It is key that you narrow down the exact places/cities that you want to visit in order to plan your best course of travel. When I travelled Australia back in 2012, I stuck primarily to several stops - hopping off in Perth, Brisbane, Sydney and Adelaide over an 8 week period. Here are my top things to do in each city. Perth: As the capital of … [Read more...]
