May 29, 2014 by Anna MLeave a Comment

You've heard of the Sydney Opera House, so that's on your list of places to see. Perhaps you've decided that you will take photos from the Sydney Harbour Bridge, and maybe Bondi Beach is also on your list of places to go, but why not spread your wings and see more of the country? If you've booked your flights to Brisbane, or Adelaide or Sydney and you're thinking of touring Eastern Australia, which special and inspirational places you would like … [Read more...]

In San Sebastian, The Surf and the Fun Are All that Matter

May 29, 2014 by Max HartshorneLeave a Comment

I never anticipate travel delays. But lately, I’ve taken to relishing where they will take me. What adventures lie ahead if you’re willing to take the risk, and just go with what happens? I went to get my reservation for my train trip to Coimbra, Portugal and when I finally made it to the SNCF office they told me the train was sold out. The European soccer championships were being played in Lisbon, I was told. “You can ask the conductor, but … [Read more...]

Learn the Ropes to Cruise the Waterways of France

May 23, 2014 by Michael Long4 Comments

When I first went to Paris, I was struck by the beauty of this city. I was also amazed at how many boats I saw. Before I went I read about its history and about the things to see, food to taste and museums to visit. But being one who has spent a lot of time on boats, I was really surprised that I had not seen anything written about, or photos of, all the boats. Walking along the Seine I saw numerous vessels and wondered where they all came from. … [Read more...]

Playing In The Mud Is Good For You

Playing in the mud is good for you @ Penny Sadler

Perhaps you remember when you were a kid splashing through puddles of water after a heavy rain or playing in the mud. Remember how it felt? Carefree, happy, and just plain fun! Turns out that playing in the mud is good for you. You can recreate that childhood experience as an adult (sort of) in the spa town of Calistoga, California, located in the north end of California’s famous Napa Valley. The volcanic soil that provides such a perfect … [Read more...]

Exploring near Khao Yai National Park, Thailand

May 11, 2014 by Dave5 Comments

Our winemaker friend was in town, visiting from the Napa Valley in California. Immediately we thought of taking him to the Khao Yai Wine Trail - which features a number of wineries located near this National Park. Our destination was Granmonte Vineyards an established winery in Asoke Valley - about 3 hours from where we live. Along with the winery, they also run the Vincotto Restaurant (delicious Mediterranean cuisine) and a guesthouse. The … [Read more...]

BASQUE CASE: Separation Anxiety in the Pyrenees

May 8, 2014 by John EdwardsLeave a Comment

“Before God was God and boulders were boulders, Basques were already Basques.” --Basque proverb A merry little trip to the Basque Country, an autonomous utopia containing a bit of both France and Spain is like trying to find the original site of the Garden of Eden, which Basques claim might be hidden in their unrecognized “country”: Euskadi! Inching along in your rented Renault time machine on the high mountain passes through the … [Read more...]

How to Make the Best of Night Buses

May 5, 2014 by Leslie Finlay1 Comment

Night bus

It was about 3 in the morning and I pulled out of the hazy half-sleep I’d goaded myself into, there was a small commotion over the aisle where my friends were sitting –hurried whispers, rearranging and by the time my brain caught up with what was going on my friend was sitting in the aisle, half asleep himself, soaking wet. I tried to steady myself to figure out what happened, but any way I shifted threw my balance. We had the last row of … [Read more...]

Pebble Beach Food & Wine Weekend

May 2, 2014 by Dave4 Comments

The Pebble Beach Food and Wine Weekend is only in its seventh year yet remarkably it seems like it should be much older than that. In such a short time it has become the West Coast's premier food and wine event. It is an intriguing pairing - matching some of the world's best wine with top chefs in a location that is visually stunning. The inspirational rugged coastline and natural beauty is the backdrop for a long weekend of decadence and at … [Read more...]

A few hours spent with Los Angeles based wild food forager, Pascal Baudar will open your eyes to the wonders and diversity of the edible natural world. Eating Your Way Through South America

April 24, 2014 by Kate MayerLeave a Comment

As with most international adventures, a trip through South America should include copious amounts of eating. This continent is certain not to disappoint no matter what your tastes (but it would hopefully include a fondness for red meat and wine). Buenos Aires, Argentina is one of the most metropolitan and beautiful cities in the world. Not only is it full of incredible museums, parks, street art, and cafes but the food is fantastic. The … [Read more...]
