A Musselsafari with Orust Shellfish in Lysekil – Western Sweden

June 25, 2013 by Dave2 Comments

One of the highlights of exploring western Sweden and its small villages and towns along the country's western archipelago, is the seafood. A unique tour and a good way to spend part of a day exploring the local seafood industry is with Orust Shellfish based in the small town of Lysekil. Lysekil is about 130 kilometers or 90 minutes north west from Sweden's second largest city, Gothenburg. It was a bright beautiful sunny early morning in … [Read more...]

A Romp in the South of France – Day 1: Bordeaux – St. Emilion

June 19, 2013 by Tim HorganLeave a Comment

Backpack strapped on and ready to move, I marched onward and outward of the Youth Hostel, away from comfort; a comfort, to be fair, that had held me back, that had repressed my inner flame for too long. Yes I was over it, over these post-University blues, over this lack of motivation I constantly felt. I mean for God’s sake, I was travelling! And ten months had gone by. Now don’t get me wrong, I had done some awesome stuff and lived ten months of … [Read more...]

Virginia is for Foodies

June 12, 2013 by Allison TibaldiLeave a Comment

Even if you arrive in Virginia knowing not a soul, don’t be surprised if you leave feeling as if you’ve broken bread and shared drink with good folk who are now friends. That’s the way Virginia strikes me. I come here to eat, drink and contemplate its natural beauty, but am most deeply affected by its people. It’s a truly welcoming place, even to a Northern stranger like me. I recently road- tripped my way through the Commonwealth in search … [Read more...]

Finding the roots of our heritage

May 27, 2013 by Dave3 Comments

I have been fortunate to track down some of my father's heritage - from Luxembourg to Los Angeles. Now it was turn for my mother's side of the family. They come from a very beautiful part of Italy - in the hills along the Italian Riviera. We visited the small town of Casarza Ligure; the "Gallo" name is everywhere which is my mother's maiden name. The homesite of my great Grandfather, Guiseppe Gallo is situated high on a hill above Casarza and … [Read more...]

Driving through Tuscany & Antinori Winery Visit

May 24, 2013 by DaveLeave a Comment

It was hard to leave San Marino - it is such a unique and small country. Interesting museums, eclectic shopping, great views and good food! We opted for the slow drive through Tuscany - covering windy roads up and down the rolling hills, cresting passes and driving through several National Parks. The roads are narrow, steep at times but always through picturesque countryside. This time of year everything is green or in bloom. Spring has … [Read more...]

Enjoying Lake Garda

May 16, 2013 by DaveLeave a Comment

One of the advantages of living in Verona (besides the obvious history and being a picturesque town) is the fact that it is located fairly close to the mountains. We headed out this morning (I would say early but after a late night of walking the streets of Verona we didn't rise until many hours after sunrise)! I had heard about the charms of Lake Garda for a number of years (more frequently now that my brother is living in the area). Lake … [Read more...]
