Three Must See Sights in Northern Cyprus

November 6, 2017 by Dave12 Comments

Last summer when I mentioned to people I was planning a trip to Cyprus (Northern Cyprus as well), I often received blank stares or the question "where is Cyprus". A little geography is in order; the island is in the Mediterranean Sea - in the far eastern reaches south of Turkey and just west of Lebanon. It is the third largest island in the Mediterranean after Italy's Sicily and Sardinia. I flew from Beirut, Lebanon - there are certainly … [Read more...]

Sunrise and Sunset points are appropriately named and are great places to watch the suns hello and goodbye for the day. One can hike around the "rock" on a trail - or visit significant geological formations or places of significant cultural heritage. The Cultural Centre is in the … [Read more...]

Wine Tasting in Thies Senegal

October 18, 2017 by Dave7 Comments

With only two wineries in the country, our wine tasting options during our visit were somewhat limited. I reached out to both producers – one a grape producer with a small vineyard outside of Dakar (Le Clos des Baobabs) and the other a fruit wine producer (Vin du Sahel Winery) in Thies, the “second city” of Senegal – about 90 mins by car from Dakar. The founders of Vin du Sahel Winery, Joe Sambou (along with his wife Kim) have multicultural … [Read more...]
