LACOT October Meetup – Los Angeles

November 2, 2012 by Dave1 Comment

Levitated-Mass-LACMA Our latest LACOT meetup was at Hotel Wilshire conveniently located on “Miracle Mile” next to “Museum Row” and minutes from the popular Grove Shopping Center.

Capitalizing on the often pleasant weather year round, Hotel Wilshire has turned their roof into the centerpiece of their hotel. Appropriately named, the “Roof on Wilshire” is located here, along with a bar, plenty of views and a small pool.

The night was remarkably windy and superbly clear – unusual for this time of year.

It was great to catch up with friends including:
@LATravelWriter
@AllyTravels
@MelanieWaldman
@JenniferMiner
@ThatsVy

and have some new faces show – including @LegalNomads who popped in on her way to London, as well as prolific travelers, @lax2nrt and @RalphVelasco

The next day – catching up on some much needed museum visits, Syy, myself and @LATravelWriter headed down the street to catch the latest exhibits at LACMA and see one of their show pieces, “Levitated Mass” – a 340 ton giant boulder that was moved from Riverside County in early 2012 to its final resting place at the museum. Similar to the Endeavor which recently crawled through prior “prepped” streets of LA at a turtle’s pace, this behemoth could only travel a maximum of a few mph at night. You realize just how large this “rock” is when you see it close up – you can even walk directly underneath it!

    Walking under it was a little strange. Running threw my mind was “were the positive that they placed this correctly????” Of course it is and it is an awesome exhibit. Thanks for the post.
