Beautiful Montmarte

August 9, 2011 by Miss MociLeave a Comment

One of my favorite movies of all times is without the shadow of a doubt Amelie. Not only because of the quirky protagonist, but also because the movie is set in one of the most beautiful cities I know – Paris. In case you don’t know the story I won’t reveal too much, but throughout the movie Amelie interferes more or less secretly in the lives of the people around her to make it better and the story takes us on a lovely journey through Paris, in particular the district of Montmatre. It’s an iconic place in the City of Light and if you plan on renting Paris apartments you should look for something in this area.

The district located in the 18th arrondissement earns its name from the hill that looks over this area. On the top of this hill one of the most popular landmarks in Paris is located, the Sacre-Coeur Basilica. The whole district bares a lot of history and culture of the city. It has a very bohemian character as many artists gathered here in the past and the district turned into the artistic center of Paris. Picasso and Van Gogh are among the big artists that worked here.

The city development is very limited here as the council tries to maintain the historic character this area has.

But this district has another face as well. As you can imagine the eclectic and artistic crowd was never a stranger to great and sometimes excessive parties and Montmatre is known for its great nightclubs. So for a night out you know where to go. Neighboring in the southwest you will find the red-light district of Pigalle.

For more inspiration as to what to see and do in Montmatre when you are staying in apartments in Paris I highly recommend to watch the movie before your trip. The movie was a great success and this sure to the advantage of the places that appear in the movie.
