September 12, 2012 by Lisa Ellen NiverLeave a Comment

Can't get away but want to feel like you've traveled? I recommend these five stories to get your Fall full of far-away places that will make you feel as if you did leave home, even if you don't get further than your back yard! The Newlyweds, by Neil Freudenberger This tale about all types of love captured my heart. The story features intercontinental online dating (New York to Bangladesh) and moments in rural Bangladesh, all set against … [Read more...]

Matka Canyon, Macedonia

September 12, 2012 by Dave3 Comments

Pulled into Skopje late last night and like many of the cities in the nearby countries - easily found free wifi - a lifesaver when you are winging every hotel or hostel at the last minute. Looking for a break from the fast paced travel of the last few days - I got up Sunday morning and caught the early bus to Matka - which is just on the outskirts of the city. Most cities would kill to have a place like this within spitting distance of its … [Read more...]

Rural Romanian Village Homestay

September 7, 2012 by Dave16 Comments

Greetings from rural Romania! After a smooth 2 hour train ride I was met at the station depot by Mr. Saure, an agronomist engineer who volunteered to show me around town. He spoke very little English - so we headed right to the local museum where we were met by Dan who spoke very good English. This museum is not your typical village museum - rather it encompasses 40 acres of which a number is set aside for orchards, a demo vineyard and many … [Read more...]

Village Life, Romania

September 3, 2012 by DaveLeave a Comment

I am always researching travel sites and travel blogs and came across one several years ago, Watermelon Nomads, run by the husband wife team of Greg and Alexandra - a quote on their website by Alexandra inspired me to write them at that time. "I believe now that the richness of a travel experience is given by the ability of switching perspectives. We live in a world of cliches, where our image and feelings about a place usually come either … [Read more...]

Power Bar 4200

September 1, 2012 by DaveLeave a Comment

Power Bar 4200 (Reviewed: Sep 2012) is the latest product by by FatCatGear - this tiny battery pack uses the latest in ultra-thin lithium polymer technology. It is small but it packs a punch as far as battery life - advertised as typically more than twice the charge of a normal smart phone battery. This we had to test out - the battery life on our iPhone is less than desirable. We drained our iPhone to below the 10% warning - charged and … [Read more...]
