The Doll Lady of Wisconsin

November 18, 2016 by Sharon Nadja Zajdman3 Comments

On the first anniversary of my mother’s passing, a letter was forwarded to me from the Holocaust Center. My mother had been prominent in Holocaust Education. A woman in Wisconsin was writing a book and looking for my mother to provide her with background information.   The Center didn’t know what to do with the letter, so they forwarded it to me. Enclosed were photographs of my mother, taken in her home. I called the woman in Wisconsin … [Read more...]

Driving the Denali Highway

November 12, 2016 by Chris Picardi1 Comment

During our eight days in Alaska, I don't think we had a single bad view, and the Denali Highway was no exception. The 135 mile, mostly-unpaved road connects the town of Cantwell to Paxson and was once the only road providing access to Denali National Park. Due to harsh winter conditions, the road is closed from October through mid-May, but if you have the opportunity to drive this road during the summer months, it will not disappoint. If you … [Read more...]

November 5, 2016 by Linda CLeave a Comment

I recently spent a few months in the UK, and I travelled around England, Ireland and Scotland. The United Kingdom is vastly different from America, and I suppose there were a few elements of culture shock along the way. Reflected on the experience, I learned many valuable things about bot the world and myself. Here are 5 things I … [Read more...]

The British Virgin Islands, a short Ferry Ride Away

November 3, 2016 by Dave2 Comments

I hopped on the ferry this morning from Charlotte Amalie in the US Virgin Islands and in an hour I was going through customs at Road Town in the British Virgin Islands on the lovely mountainous island of Tortola. Spotting a huge Celebrity Cruise ship at dock I thought Road Town would be overwhelmed with passengers but this was not the case. Road Town is the largest town on the entire island - the total population of Tortola is only about 24,000 … [Read more...]

5 Games That Are Great for Travelling

October 20, 2016 by Linda CLeave a Comment

The actual time spent travelling is often considered to be the dullest part of travelling. You have to sit on the train, bus, plane, or whatever and simply wait until you arrive at your final destination. And even if you’re driving yourself it isn’t too thrilling either, especially if you are driving for many hours, without a break. Fortunately, now we have a lot more options compared to only few decades ago, let alone a century ago. Moreover, … [Read more...]

Into Hell’s Fire by Douglas Cavanaugh

October 1, 2016 by DaveLeave a Comment

This fictional account is an intense war story and often reads like reality. The book follows Lucas Martin, an experienced war time veteran and retired agent of the US government. He is 'retired' in Thailand when he receives a call to return to service to serve his country in and around Sarajevo, just before the siege of this historic city during the war that devastated this part of the world in the early and mid 1990's. He is hired to gain … [Read more...]
