THE BIG 375
The candles are lit, the streamers are ready – Montréal is officially turning 375 this month. And boy, are we putting on a show! We’re lighting up Jacques-Cartier Bridge, inviting Giants over, celebrating history with Cité Mémoire and the St. Lawrence River with AVUDO, and praising the powers that be with AURA at Notre-Dame Basilica. Won’t you come see?
THE STREETS COME ALIVE
From July 6 to 30, 2017, Montréal’s already animated Quartier des Spectacles will be in party overdrive. Montréal’s entertainment district will welcome the largest street theatre event in North America, À Nous la Rue – think 60 of the world’s most renowned street theatre troupes putting on over 800 shows. Amazing.
NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH
You won’t want to take your eyes off Montréal from May 12 to September 17, 2017, when each of the city’s 19 boroughs take their turn hosting the 375th festivities during La Grande Tournée. There’ll be open-air acrobatics by the famous Cirque Éloize, giant community picnics, back lane parties, treasure hunts… coming soon to a neighbourhood near you!
ART FOR PEACE
The stretch of Sherbrooke Street between the McCord Museum and the Montréal Museum of Fine Arts will turn into an open-air museum for La Balade pour la Paix, from June 5 to October 29, 2017. The trajectory inspires passersby to walk for peace through 67 works reflecting the spirit of Expo 67, itself celebrating a 50th anniversary this year.
ALL ABOUT EXPO
Expo 67 was a groundbreaking moment for Montréal – and Quebec at large. To mark the 50h anniversary of this historic encounter with modernity, we’ve organized a host of programming befitting its grandeur. Think a gorgeous 60s fashion extravaganza at the McCord, an animated walking tour and the illumination of the Biosphere…
THE MERRIEST GO-ROUND
Starting in June, ride the highest observation wheel in Canada right in the heart of Montréal’s Old Port. Soar to a unique vantage point 60 meters above ground between the city and the river on La Grande Roue de Montréal, a brand new attraction on Île Bonsecours. Best of all, visit when you want: it’ll run year round, whatever the weather, from 10 am to 11 pm!
HOTELS TO THE RIGHT, HOTELS TO THE LEFT
It’s a growth spurt! Hotels are popping up throughout Montréal’s downtown core. Hotel Mount Stephen will extra sheen to the Golden Square Mile, Hôtel Monville Montréal will be changing the landscape downtown, as will the Holiday Inn & Suites and AC Marriott. And the iconic Fairmont The Queen Elizabeth is reopening after a splendid reno. So many choices!
