Dreaming of Montana

March 22, 2017 by Dave3 Comments

It has been far to long since I have been to Montana. My father and I visited some 20 years ago - a road trip in the spirit of gold mining but in reality became a father-son bonding trip and a chance to explore the great outdoors of the Western USA. Most of our time in Montana was spent in the north and western part of the state with a mix of time spent both in small cities and the outdoors. We also visited Helena and Billings but those were … [Read more...]

A Taste of Hiking in Colorado

February 16, 2017 by Jessica Starkschall2 Comments

I love Colorado. I also love hiking. I’d like to share two of my favorite hikes in Colorado. MAROON BELLS (Aspen, CO)  Aspen is gorgeous, so of course, hiking in Aspen is spectacular.  The views while hiking the Maroon Bells are simply breathtaking.  I took the 6 mile round trip to the pristine Crater Lake.  The hike began with ease.  However, it quickly became an uphill, rocky climb and proved to be quite difficult.  It is not impossible, as … [Read more...]

Chasing Adventure in the Dominican Republic

February 14, 2017 by Preethi Chandrasekhar2 Comments

I'm standing at the edge of a mountain, taking in the gorgeous city sprawled below me.  I hear the commands "Run, run!" The body instinctively resists but I take a leap of faith and go. I'm up in the air before I even know it, the parachute lifting me up and away.  And just like that I'm paragliding in Jarabacoa, Dominican Republic. The name Dominican Republic more often than not stirs up images of a blue green Caribbean sea, and miles and … [Read more...]

Everything is impossible, until it happens

Backpacker at the airport

In late 2013, I decided to ride a bicycle through Africa in an attempt to turn my life around. My parents had passed away back home in Ireland but, to tell the truth, it was not their memory that had dislodged my equilibrium, it was me indulging in self-destruction. It all seemed so impossible on the airplane as I sat reading a beginner’s manual about how to repair punctures, but after a year spent riding through deserts, mountains, remote … [Read more...]

Ko Yao Noi Island, Thailand – February 2017

February 1, 2017 by Dave2 Comments

This little piece of paradise is located merely about 25 minutes from near Phuket on a speed boat - you can also access the island from the other side - from the city of Krabi. For being located in between and fairly close to two popular urban areas - somehow this island has escaped the pull of developers and the crowds that are found on those other mainland destinations. The locals are extremely friendly and helpful, the pace of life is slow - … [Read more...]

A Most Unusual Walk in Panama City

January 21, 2017 by Paul KandarianLeave a Comment

It’s tough to walk a mile in the shoes of someone who’s been shot. But it’s worth the walk anyway, to learn about how people gone bad can find their way to good. In the Central American country of Panama, Panama City’s Casco Viejo neighborhood is a great place to do it. I’m walking with former bad boy Samuel Palacio through Casco Viejo, a historic district in Panama City that has long been riddled with crime, much of it gang related. Samuel … [Read more...]

Touring Europe: Why you Should Visit the Magical City of Porto

January 9, 2017 by Anthea AdamsLeave a Comment

Porto: a city with a charming spirit that’s visible in its food, wine, and breathtaking views. It’s where the mesmerizing Douro River flows towards the cold waters of the Atlantic. The city is positioned on the steep riverbank, showcasing an opulent city hall and tall towers. Remains of the city’s past are apparent in the astounding architecture of the buildings. After sunset, the city flaunts a romantic setting, glowing like a honeycomb. … [Read more...]

Quito, Ecuador – January 2017

January 1, 2017 by Dave2 Comments

Quito is the highest capital city in the world (approximately 2800 meters) and earned one of the first UNESCO World Heritage designations in 1978. It is a bustling city spread out between valleys and sprawls partway up the massive mountains that surround it. While the Galapagos Islands garner much of the attention of tourists - a visit to Quito offers a variety of attractions both in and outside the city. Setup "home base" in the lively La … [Read more...]

The Best Santa Cruz Beaches

December 16, 2016 by Jason Mueller1 Comment

California is well known for its awesome weather, beloved beaches, and monster waves.  Originally known as the Grizzly Bear State but the bear population went extinct due to hunting and human activity, the state is now commonly known as the Golden State. The sun is what makes California so epic and especially the beaches of Santa Cruz. There is a stunning array of beaches in Santa Cruz, you would be hard pressed to visit them all in one day … [Read more...]

Remembering My Time on Paros, Greece

December 13, 2016 by Dave1 Comment

Of all the islands I have visited over the years, the first island I ever visited in Europe many years ago left a lasting impression on me. This was Paros, Greece. I was backpacking with my brother throughout Europe in summer. We had just arrived in Athens where the city was suffering through it's worst heat wave of the season with temperatures in the day hovering in the low 40's (105+ F). Incidentally Athens holds the record temperature for any … [Read more...]
